friendly competent service, good food, friendly wait staff, best breakfast, favorite brioche french toast, great sandwiches, of dry baked egg meal

By day, this tiny restaurant near the Church of Scientology is a go-to brunch spot for hip guests seeking egg dishes and salads. By night, it has been used for events like This Is Not a Pop Up, which hosts local chefs trying out new menus.

Brioche french toast, perfect morning meal! There's a perfection in the toast with the sponginess and crisp edges drizzled in syrup and fruits.
Made with brioche drenched in rich custard, Square One offers the best French toast in all the land.

Hipster breakfast spot with excellent egg dishes in all forms. They truly know how to cook eggs, which I appreciate. Parking tough, so valet
great hidden gem near silverlake. went there with some gal pals and had a wonderful brunch. i ordered the beet salad which was wonderful. everyone enjoyed their food and the place was very quaint.
Lovely Cafe for Brunch. This was a delightful treasure located in the midst of a somewhat dodgy area right behind the Church of Scientology - but once you step into the cute little space and then into the enclosed back patio, you are transported into a calming haven where you can while away the morning or afternoon with your friends and family. The food is pretty straightforward, fresh and good - nothing complicated. My friends had a yummy looking omelette and a breakfast sandwich with potato salad (quite yummy). I had a puree of celery root soup with apples (very appropos for the holidays - sweet, light and homey) and a grilled cheese sandwich (with gruyere and cheddar)(good). I also had a refreshing morrocan ice tea (yum!). The entire experience was great - from the good food, the friendly competent service, the relaxing atmosphere. I would definitely return here to try their other offerings.
Truly the Best Breakfast in Town. I've eaten at my fair share of restaurants known for their breakfasts but Square One Dining truly has made their breakfast dishes works of culinary art. Everything is extremely fresh and you can taste the freshness with each bite. My wife and I have gone here many times trying different items on the menu and we have never been disappointed. If I were to pick a favorite, the lox bennedict over a potato pancake paired with a side salad is just amazing. But I like the pancakes and skillets as well. For all you breakfast fans, this is the place to dine.
Bad potatos.
I had the breakfast sandwich with sausage, eggs, aioli, and tomato, on brioche. The sandwich was pretty tasty. Unfortunately, the side of potatos was pretty awful. They were overcooked, dry, and lacked all flavor. I think they were supposed to have rosemary and other herbs, but that was not the case. That was a bummer. I recommend Millies in Silverlake for good breakfast potatos.
The other bummer is the table salt. The salt is flaked, however the dispenser doesn't allow the flakes to actually leave the dispenser because the holes are too small (so I made a mess trying to get some salt on my flavorless potatos).
The wait to be seated for Saturday brunch was brief, which is nice. FYI - arrive at 10:30and be seated immediately. Arrive at 11:00am and wait 10 - 15 minutes. Just a heads up.
Excellent Baked Egg Dishes. Overall, a great experience. We got there around 1:30 on a Sunday. Crowded but not a long wait. Good service, a good bottomless cup of coffee and the food was delish. Enjoy!
Why can't everywhere else be this good????. This is one of the only places I will go out to breakfast now. There's just no comparison. The French Toast with caramelized pecans with homemade vanilla whipped cream is to die for. The applewood smoked bacon is great (it's thick so ask for it extra crispy). The muffins, eggs, ommlets, and orange juice are great too! I just haven't had anything there that wasn't perfect. It's really gormet with normal people prices and atmosphere. Very comfortable. Nice outside dining patio. The owner is always there, he is very open to suggestions, and will make sure your order is perfect no matter what.
Outstanding. Probably the best breakfast place I've been to in L.A. The food was amazing, the staff great and the ambience was perfect. You have to try the french toast with their fresh fruit toppings. You will NOT be disappointed.
small, friendly, somewhat unique but tasty. My wife, 2-year old, and I went here for brunch last Sunday. We had no problem getting a table, even though the place was pretty small. I ordered an omlette, my wife a baked egg fritatta, and my daughter some pancakes. My omlette was tasty and moist; my wife's baked egg meal was kind of dry and disappointing; my daugher's pancakes were pretty good (yes, I ate my share; the syrup was good quality maple, too). The ambience was funky kitsch, which we enjoyed. Both the manager (owner?) and wait staff were very friendly, which is so refreshing. We also found the restaurant to be kid friendly (e.g., our waitress gave my daughter a book to read; she also gave her a crayon to color on our brown paper table "cloth"). I would definitely go back here because of the unique (possibly healthy) breakfast offerings and the nice, friendly, relaxed atmosphere and service.
New Breakfast Alternative. I went yesterday for the first time, and tried one of the baked egg dishes with greens and grits. The mustard greens added just the right touch of heat; the grits melted in my mouth. I thought the portion size was perfect: not the huge mounds of food you find elsewhere. I left feeling satisfied, not stuffed. I'll definitely go back again.
Disappointly Average. I love cafes that are great for lunch and keep on serving breakfast long after usual breakfast hours so I went in with high hopes. The place has a nice unassuming comfortable vibe and our waitress was pleasant and helpful but... the food was just average, the plates of food sort of skimpy and the price was way too high for what you get. And how about this for a supposedly low key neighborhood feel: my cobb salad was served with a side of the smallest amount of dressing I've ever seen, a spoonful maybe. I tried to make due but after eating a third of it, the salad was just dry... so I asked our waitress if I could perhaps have a little more; she happily retrieved a second small helping... and guess what? An extra charge was added to the bill. For a spoonful of extra dressing! Not very neighborly if you ask me. I could reel off at least a dozen places within driving distance that I would rather have gone to, that would have been more generous, more reasonably priced and most importantly: more delicious. Needless to say I'll go to any one of them next time.
