great service, just heavenly tagliatelle salmone, favorite rasberries, best wine, wonderful charm, amazing fraiche, favorite strawberries
Mmmmm..... I've been to many Italian restaurants in the SM area, and have yet to find a place that serves authentic Italian cuisine, until now! All of their ingredients were top notch. I only wish I could eat there every day.
Disappointing. We went to Enzo and Angela's because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The restaurant has little to no atmosphere and it was freezing cold. But we hoped the food would make up for that. No such luck! The food that was the biggest disappointment. I had a special that had so much salt in it that it was almost inedible. My other three companions also found their food to be lacking in flavor and, on the whole, mediocre. We definitely would not return. Happily, the next night we ate at Fraiche, which was amazing.
My favorite Italian restaurant. This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant in LA - and debatably my favorite overall. Service is amazing and incredibly knowledgeable. I have fantasies that involve their crab risotto and tartufo cioccolato. For wine selection, I always let them bring me whatever wine they think is best and they never fail me. Totally worth the drive, wherever you're coming from. From the outside, it doesn't look like much (not the pretentious, trendy hollywood/LA kind of restaurant you have to go to to get interesting food), but I've sent many friends & co-workers there and nobody has ever been disappointed.
Best Italian food I've found. I've visited Italy a few times and was just in Positano, Italy this past September (07). Naturally, I love the food. Just after returning to the states, a friend turned me onto this resturant. The owners (Enzo & Angela who are also the chefs) and the wait staff are all from Positano. This was hands down the best italian food I've found outside of Italy! The service is even truly Italian. With their "manja" attitude, the more you enjoy their food, the more they enjoy you! *as for wine selection - ask for a recomendation.
Great Place. We live 20 miles away, but anytime we are in the Westwood area and in the mood for Italian, this is where we go. Great food, great service. Neighborhood feel. Trust the servers in terms of recommendations. The specials are usually excellent, particularly the Risotto.
Incredible Food, Service and Ambiance.
Host Hektor Mandi provides wonderful charm, hospitality and service. Hektor always provides terrific suggestions of both entree's and wine.
Angela creates wonderfully delicious soups, many I have tried to recreate at home without the success of tasting as good as hers. If you like Lentils, her Lentil soup is out of this world (always available) and occasionally she makes mushroom soup which sells out fast because its out of this world.
Enzo creates some of the best Salmon dishes I have ever had the pleasure of eating. His Salmone Al Forno as well as his Tagliatelle Salmone are just heavenly!
Now here is a recommendation for something not on the menu that is outrageously delicious...ask for the Artichoke Pasta! Pasta shaped like artichoke leaves with a sauce made of Porcini mushrooms and Truffles! This also makes a wonderful side-dish to accompany a meat entree such as the Filetto ai Porcini in Salsa Cabernet.
Now for dessert...if they have a special Peach (or sometimes Apricot) "wet cake" then definitely do not pass this up!! Its not on the menu however Angela sometimes has it as a special dessert. The sorbets are yummy,,,the coconut sorbet is so light and creamy its like eating coconut cake. The Tartufo Cappucino (cappucino gelato with an espresso center covered with
coffee - flavored meringue sprinklesand with an espresso center) is particularly satisfying after a spicy meal. The Frutti di Bosco (Layers of short pastry filled with Chantilly cream covered with
blueberries, blackberries, rasberries and strawberries) is another favorite of mine.
The ambiance of the restaurant as well as the service is outstanding. Its the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for 2 or for a special occasion. Lunch if always delicious with a variety of salads and Panini's to choose from...BUON APPETITO!
Ambitious neighborhood Italian spot brings European hospitality and authentic specialties to West L.A..
In Short
Perched over a Wilshire Boulevard mini-mall, the dining room's airy Mediterranean charm sparkles over arched windows, white and pale azure walls, blond wood, and seascape paintings. Locals crowd in for lunch and dinner cooked by native Italian chef/owner Enzo Battara and his wife, Angela, previous owners of Positano. Specialties include fresh spigola (imported sea bass from Italy), filet mignon with porcini mushrooms, chicken rolled with mozzrella and a long menu of pasta dishes.
