fast cheap vegan food, appealing menu, like meal i order, rude pretty, comfortable small, really friendly everyone, congenial service
Nice Price, Nice Spice. Across the street from Palms ... I found this place by mistake and now have been here many times. They have great fake chicken burgers, amazing noodles and a delicious lemon cake. Everyone is really friendly and the prices are just right. Start off with the dumplings. Mmmmm
Great food for cheap..
I love this place. it's really fast, servers are nice.
Their soy chicken is amazing, as is their protein salad. All of the wraps are huge and i've never had a bad experience.
Now for the cons...
We're in LA, it's hot, it's July, let's get the air conditioner going. the staff were literally sitting in front of me by the register with 2 fans pointed at them as i was melting in the heat. Pretty rude.
parking is annoying.
Great Vegan Food on a Budget.
I order from Truly every once in a while when I am feeling too lazy to cook and I've been there a few times. The interior is sort of 'blah' but it's a small little mom & pop restaurant that is in between a head shop and liquor store so don't expect it to be super classy. Everything on the menu is under $10. Every meal I order is like, $6-$7 which is really cheap for a vegan restaurant. The people that work there are the nicest people you'll meet. I've never had any problems with anything I've ordered. The pepper steak wrap is awesome and it includes avocado (unlike the one at California Vegan that costs way more and you have to add avocado for $2). I like the Truly spicy as well. I always order their Kombucha elixers as well. They are $3 or $3.50 but they are worth it because they are so good for you!
I recommend Truly to people who want good healthy food for cheap. Yeah, they don't have the upscale vibe that Real Food Daily has, but atleast you won't spend $14 on some cold mashed potatos and veggies (that are very tasty...but still...)
At Truly you can get good, fast, cheap vegan food for the price of a fast food meal...and it doesn't make you feel like an unhealthy slob after you eat it!!!
Haven't quite got it down yet.... Hate to go against the grain here but I am not a fan of this place as the other two reviewers are. I think the idea (Vegan Thai-based) and intention are excellent but they (Truly Vegan) just haven't quite got it down yet. The menu is extensive and appealing. I have tried many dishes here but there are always problems like: the wraps are wrapped with aluminum foil on the INSIDE as well as the outside so when you go to bite into the wrap, you chomp down on foil - AHHH! I asked them to re-wrap for me once, but they didn't seem to understand why this is not really "right" and that the foil should just be on the outside only, holding the wrap together. The burgers fall apart as soon as you bite into them. Some ingredients are listed on the menu for certain dishes but when you get the dish, those things are missing and there are other items in the dish that you didn't know you were getting - I find this bothersome. I want what I order and nothing more or less. Other than that, Truly Vegan is fine. I'd try some of the more authentic vegan (and Asian) resturants out in San Gabriel, Alhambra, and throughout Los Angeles. They are far better.
vegan breakfast plus. Finally got to check it out for the first time for Vegetarian Awareness Day. My friend (carnivore committed) tried the Breakfast of Champions (gluten free pancakes and fried chicken-esque steak). He ate the whole thing and liked it. There was even a comment that it was the veggie version of Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles. I tried one of the thai soups with coconut milk, mushrooms, shoots and tofu. It came blazingly hot and I found it better as I worked my way through it. I followed it with a standard spicy Thai rice noodle, basil dish, which I thought rocked. Bits of jalapeno were everywhere and I believe it was the first time that I didn't have to add a thing. Normally, with restaurants you ask for it super spicy and you still don't feel the burn. A very well priced menu with lots of options to keep you going back to try something new and different. Small room, but comfortable. Service was congenial. For a Sunday afternoon is was full the entire time we were there. Truly Vegan is a vegetarian/vegan lovers staple. I'll definitely return, even without the meat eater.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Healthy vegan restaurant serves animal-free dishes like eggless pancakes, tofu burgers and shabu shabu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Best Vegan that I've ever had!. Excellent choices, the food lives up to their name. Pleasant staff, a definite place to back for more. I encourage all vegans to try them out. Nice location too.
