Editorial Review for Leimert Park Village – by Nina Emkin
In Short
Founded in the 1920s as a planned community for low- and middle-income families, this neighborhood is now a cultural hub for local African-Americans. The area is lined with Spanish Colonial bungalows, art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, coffee houses and jazz clubs. It's a haven for poets, artists and musicians, and prominent residents include director John Singleton ("Boyz n the Hood").

The Village is filled with restaurants (Earle's, Ackee Bamboo, M&M, The Kitchen, Sunny's Spot, Babe and Ricky's) and coffee bars (5th Street Dick's, Lucy Florence) where jazz, blues, spoken word poetry and hip hop rhymes break out at a moment's notice. Evey Sunday a drum circle fills the park and can be heard for miles around. Project Blowed, Kaos, World Stage and Vision Theatre are also here. leimertpark.ning
