Tropical coconut cake, a definite must-have if you love anything coconut. The frosting isn't too sweet and the bread is moist and melts in your mouth.

Very dissappointed with custom cakes. If you really want to know my experience reminded me of the Steinfield episode - "Soup Nazi".

What's up with a shop that does all kinds of custom cakes but can't make minor change to one of their standard cakes with 48 hours notice?

I waited while the "custom cake lady" chatted on the phone. Meanwhile I looked through the whole book of adult cakes, yes many, but not so special sheet cakes with stenciled designs. This was not quite what I had in mind. I had already eyed their "off the shelf" cakes.

My boyfriend is having a birthday and I wanted to get something special that reminded him of home. Their Old-Fashioned 6-layer Chocolate Cake looked like just the ticket, I just wanted a small change, the icing.

Instead of 100% all dark chocolate icing, I asked for white icing outside. On the inside -- alternate white and dark chocolate filling -- which would remind him of Mom.

But no, no, neither was possible.... She wouldn't ask baker -- says they knows the cook has a fixed recipe and measurements -- absolutely positive -- wouldn't even ask.

When she tried to sell me a marble cake, I did look, but it was very messy inside. My vision was a tuxedo look, alternating dark chocolate and vanilla stripes of icing between the six layers. The marble in comparison would look like an unmade bed.

The impression I got was that the baker is inflexible and the staff is less inclined to be responsive to what you want and more about what fits their routine.

Seems that they are happy to sell you a cupcake, but unable to accommodate reasonable request for custom cake. I walked away with nothing not even a user friendly attitude.

Kinda makes you wish for home and Mom....

Great ambiance to get cupcakes. great ambiace and product packaging. The cupcakes aren't as heavy as sprinkles. I wasn't too big a fan when I tried the red velvet, but all in all, its ok. Nothing can beat sprinkles, but susie cakes does have its unique appeal.

Best Cupcakes in Los Angeles. I used to work up the street from Susie Cakes, and I quickly became almost a daily regular to the store. $3 never seemed like much...but when you're buying EVERY DAY, it gets as bad as a Starbuck habit!

I think the taste of these cupcakes are phenomenal. I highly recommend the red velvet (the best they have), and their monthly flavors are always good too (favorites are the pumpkin and pineapple upside-down cakes).

$3 is a little much to ask for, as these cupcakes are not as large as what you'd get at either Sprinkles or Yummy Cupcakes...but they are BETTER TASTING by far.

Moving away from Los Angeles in about a month...Susie Cakes is one of the things I will miss most.

Better than Sprinkles. I have celebrated several occasions with Susie Cake Cupcakes and Cakes. I have to say they are the best in town and far better than Sprinkles. However it is a hard decision during birthdays to choose the cream filled cupcakes or the cakes, not to mention that the staff is very accommodating and helpful.

If you're a New Englander don't go there for the whoopie pies..... I've heard great things about Susie Cakes cupcakes which I have yet to try so don't use my review for their cupcakes. But if you're from New England and felt that a huge draw of theirs was the whoopie pies then don't bother. They make the outer pie/cookie part wwwaaayy too thick and dense and heavy, almost like a super thick chocolate cookie as opposed to a lighter fluffy cake. And the cream in the middle tastes too much like shortening. Do yourself a favor at the price they charge per whoopie pie($5) order some online from a New England business. You'll be glad you did.

Great moist cupcakes. Each cupcake ($3) was filled with frosting and ranged from Mint Chocolate, Mocha, Lemon, Marshmallow, Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet and Peanut butter.

The Red Velvet was moist and the Strawberry cupcake, which tasted like strawberry shortcake was another favorite. I also liked their traditional vanilla cake with a blue butter cream frosting. These cakes aren't as dry Sprinkles and there is seating too

Best Red Velvet Cupcakes!. I LOVE susie cakes! All the people that work there are always very friendly and helpful and when I ordered a cake for a birthday, they called a few days later to ensure we liked it. Their red velvet cake is phenomenal and my guests absolutely loved it. I also had one of their pumpkin cupcakes which was amazing. It is a cute bakery too, I just wish they were open later so I could go by for dessert after dinner.
