Editorial Review for Pink Taco – by Martha Burr

In Short
Restaurateur and La Lohan-ex Harry Morton's hot pink hot spot is perched jauntily atop the Century City Mall. Tricked out with eye-popping kitschy Mexican designs, low rider bikes, vintage girlie pix and century-old wooden barn walls, the spacious room exudes a party hearty vibe. It follows its Vegas sister spot as a celeb magnet, and hosts a handsome young tequila-loving crowd. Popular Mexican dishes with a haute twist include signature pink corn tacos, filet mignon with chipotle mushrooms and tequila, lobster enchiladas and chile rellenos.

Happy Hour

Take advantage of the daily happy hour from 3pm to 7pm, with select drinks priced at two-for-one.

What to Drink

The bar's expansive tequila list offers an extensive premium tequila selection, and more than a dozen signature themed margaritas like the "horny bull" and the "Dirty Harry." There's also specialty sangrias, mojitos, martinis and Mexican beers.

Where to Sit

The outdoor patio overlooking Santa Monica Boulevard is fun at night with its rock soundtrack and fire pits--it's also popular with the smoking contingent.

I am picky when it comes to Mexican food, and did not expect to be wowed by Pink Taco. But the food was delicious: both salsas are great, good chips and queso, large menu with many options, great margs, good music, fun atmosphere, and good service (usually from attractive female waitresses). Especially good are the shrimp tacos - ask for the shrimp grilled and not fried and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Pros: Great food, service, drinks, chips & salsa

Cons: Can get a little loud

I'd been to Pink Taco a few times in the past and it was fine. Fun, good drinks, food was alright. But the last time I was there was enough to get me to not go back for a long, long time. I went with some friends for their happy hour before we went to see a movie. Big mistake. We were seated in a corner table. Our waitress shows up right away and takes our drink orders. Few minutes later, she brings back our drinks and takes our food orders. It took at least 30 to get our food, which wasn't really a big deal, since we were fine with chips. Still annoying though. But then, once our drinks ran out, our waitress was nowhere to be found. When we did see her walk by, we would call out to her/wave to her/do something to get her attention, all of which was ignored. She only seemed to focus on one table and forgot about everyone else. By the time I just couldn't take it anymore, I went to the bar for my free second drink, only to be yelled at by our waitress, saying that we could only do the free drinks if we went through her. Well, I would have rather paid for a second than wait another hour for her to show up! After ordering our drinks again, she just got really bitchy whenever we needed service after that. To give you some idea of how bad she was, the group of three at the table next to us showed up after we did, got served before we did, got their food before we did, paid before we did, left before we did, and a second party arrived and placed their orders before we left. So frustrating I won't be back for a while!

Pros: Fun atmosphere, nice drink menu

Cons: Some service staff can't handle heavy traffic
