decent prices, recommend shopping, cold salad bar, very clean entire supermarket, knowledgeable employees, nice layout, wonderful santa monica seafood
Go on Wednesdays. Who doesn't love whole foods? The default place for organic food in LA, it also has a wonderful selection of prepared food. Wednesday is an ideal day to go because they give $2 off the hot food bar. But get there early---by 7:00pm the food will be picked over.
I was just trying to buy something!!!.
I just got back from Whole foods on Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica tonight. I got there at the end of the day, and I know that people want to go home after a long day, but I was just trying to buy something. I knew what I wanted. I wanted some breakfast food and a little pair of baby slippers for my friend's baby shower in the morning. I saw a sign that said the slippers were 28.00, so I decided to get them. It was 9:55 and the store was closing so I got in line. The line was long and I was waiting. Then they announced that the garage would be closing in 10 minutes. So I was worried because they said that the gate would close promptly in 10 minutes and if your car was there it would be stuck for the night. I was about to leave without buying the things, but a nice person let me go in front of her in line. So I bought the stuff and darted out to get out of the garage. When I got out I thought about my total and it seemed higher than I thought it should have been. So I looked at the receipt, and sure enough they overcharged me for the baby slippers by about 10 dollars.
So I pulled over and knocked on the front door and asked the man behind the locked door. It was raining pretty hard and he just watched me as I got soaked standing in the cold. He said that I needed to go back the next day to get it cleared up. I have been going to this place for seven years and have supported that store. I am taking the slippers back tomorrow and never shopping there again. I just felt so unappreciated as a customer. I felt if anything like I was impinging on them and should never have gone there in the first place. If I could give them 0 stars I would.
If there is one thing I have learned in this horrible recession, it's that the people who buy things from you are supporting your business. Without them you would go broke and be out on the street. If someone is nice enough to support your business you should be great full and treat them that way.
Treat the body like a temple at the country's first national certified organic market..
In Short
Whole Foods is a vegetarian's dream grocery store, with a focus on natural and organic goods and a gargantuan selection of fruits, vegetables and vegan products. But carnivores won't feel neglected, as stores also boast a vast selection of top-quality meats, poultry and fish. Also expect fresh-baked goods, housewares, a floral department and a well-stocked vitamin and personal-product section. Deli offers hot and cold prepared foods and artisanal cheeses.
Whole body? Not exactly. I've visited a lot of whole foods and i expected a lot more from this prime location -- unfortunately, the whole body dept is NOT among the best i've seen -- they no longer carry Ecco Bello vanilla shampoo/conditioner and the Weleda salt toothpaste is always out! I suppose these could be the fault of the manufacturers, but still.. with a store that is frequented by celebs & folks w/high expectations, i'd expect more. that said, they have a great cheese selection -- try the animal rennet-free version (it'll say 'enzymes' or 'vegetable rennet.' yummy!
Amazing seafood selection!. I've bought whole dungeness crabs as well as king crab legs here and they're out of this world. Their produce is crisp and very fresh--the last time I bought corn here it was perfect! Their drink selections could be a bit better but they've got so much of everything else, it's awesome. Free parking.
Great cheese selection. Huge cheese selection, plus the knowledgeable employees will recommend things and even offer you samples. The entire supermarket is very clean with a nice layout. Large produce department with all the staples and some surprises. Good seafood (I normally get my seafood at the wonderful Santa Monica Seafood, but occasionally Whole Foods will rival their freshness and prices) and great butcher department. Decent prices for organic meats, usually EXTREMELY fresh. Although just this week I bought a steak from them that turned out to be not so fresh, but that's the first tie it ever happened so hopefully that was the exception to the rule. Very nice hot and cold salad bar (love the edamame salad) and wine selection. Plus the other good stuff a natural foods grocery store sells. BEST THING about all Whole Foods stores is they don't sell any products with partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (trans fats) so you don't have to read labels for that. Only complaints: the parking garage is built for small cars and unfortunately the reality is that a lot of people drive SUVs. And those people often don't know how to navigate their huge SUVs in tight places. So I usually try t o find a spot on the street. Also this location gets very crowded during the weekends, especially Sunday, so I recommend shopping during the week if possible.
