In Short – By day, sunshine floods this lofty space through floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating luncheon business deals and buzzing Beverly locals. Blond wood and warm yellow lights keep the energy up in the evening, when wine-swirling patrons invade the bar. The clean, modern space is minimally adorned with a twisted driftwood sculpture and onyx stones. Operated by Neal and Amy Fraser (Grace Restaurant), the modest American menu embellishes casual dishes with gourmet flavors and flair. Sundry plates of exotic cheese and charcuterie, like decadent Pierre Robert triple cream and cured…

Editor's Tips

Where to Sit:
A long counter with red leather bar stools is a great place to linger over wine and cheese, grab a quick breakfast or burger.
What to Drink:
The wine list offers about 30 reasonably priced, mostly French and West Coast labels, with 15 selections by-the-glass, as well as specialty beers like Mirror Pond Ale on tap and a full bar.
The Extras:
The back of the restaurant features a tiny specialty food market with items like gourmet coffees, teas, spice rubs, quince paste, saffron and black rice.

  1. It seems like a good place to go for brunch no matter what you might be in the mood for - a good cup of coffee and pastries or a frittata with some yummy potatoes.
  2. Second visit was for lunch and the food was not as impressive.
  3. Well, the pancake was huge but I did not taste any Ricotta and the frozen blueberry was lost too.
  4. The food was so good that we forgave BLD completely and in fact purchased eleven $20 gift certificates to give for Christmas gifts.
  5. Everyone's entrees at the table were delicious and the portions generous.
  6. The food was very good.
  7. had a great experience at BLD - service was attentive, friendly and eager to recommend popular dishes.
  8. started going about 6 months ago, and since then I am there every single weekend, and I am sad to say I eat the very same dish every time (ode to the butterfields, an absolutely delicious variation on eggs benedict.
  9. The pasta was bland and not very good but the sandwich was really good.
  10. normally love dark meat but not in a chicken salad.
  11. Pick your cheese, pick your meats - all spectacular choices from around the globe - and they are served up on a granite platter with toasty breads, fresh fruits, nuts, and fig paste.
  12. Stuff I love: Cheese Plates(get at least three, ask the waiter for recommendations), hemp seed encrusted tofu, grilled peach salad, vegan tomato soup, dulce de leche cheesecake, blueberry ricotta cheesecake, spicy shrimp linguini.
  13. The food at BLD is excellent!
  14. Once the food FINALLY came, my boyfriends food was so disgusting that he sent it back.
  15. the pancakes, french toast, sticky bun (splurge, fab) are great.
  16. The dinner menu could be improved - there's a "construct your own dinner" which is great (pick your meat, your side dish, etc.) but other than that I feel there are too many sandwiches and not enough meals to choose from.
  17. Anyway, the food is great, the ambiance is nice, and I do keep going back.
  18. like the dinner menu because I found a lot of interesting choices and you can construct your own meal with a choice of protein and two sides.
  19. pasta with an interesting vegetable, goat cheese sauce - decent, unique but nothing to write home about.
  20. It was extremely tasty - served with a great dressing, perfectly seared tofu and the most delicious oversized asparagus - cooked to perfection.

  24. Great comfort food--if you go for bfast or even lunch, have the chive biscuit!
  25. little over a year ago I used to come here every week because of the amazing food.
  26. The breakfast food was extraordinarily good-- blueberry ricotta pancakes, french toast, and bruleed grapefruit were all excellent, as was the fresh squeezed juice.
  27. My eggs over medium were warm and too salty and the potatoes that came with it were cold and not flavored well, the chive biscuit was tasty.
  28. food is overall great & consistent (had almost everything on their ever-changing menu & it's all been fabulous so far), the lighting gets dimmer and dimmer by the hour at nite, and the atmosphere is just great.

  35. Flavorful food.
  36. We walked down the block to Hatfield's and had a great meal.

  38. The cheese and meat plate, however, is my absolute favorite in all of Los Angeles!
  39. Great food, wine, service and ambiance
  40. The breakfast pork sausage link was also dry and the food over all just a lot more lame than I remember.
  41. My husband had the Spanish scramble which was very tasty (along with an English muffin that had a faint yeasty taste, but was still very good) - but he said it was a bit greasy for him.
  42. Like their other local down the street, Grace, the menu sounds delicious but the plates are completely sub-par.
  43. terrible service, disgusting food
  44. had the egg sandwhich- which wasn't quite as good (bacon was a little over cooked-thus making hard to eat).
  45. Cheese plate was excellent, my friend's tofu salad was bland as was my sandwich, the fries had so much salt they were barely edible.
  46. The service was great and the food was delicious.
  47. Amazing food very reasonably priced.
  48. The Valet is kind of expensive so get a spot on the street and we were sort of hoping the meat and cheese had a pick 3 meats and 2 chees's for this much, but it's a la carte and kind of spendy.
  49. But their turkey sandwich I had was really good, and the fries were excellent: Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and piping hot (I hate cold fries!)
  50. The service was slow, but it gave us the chance to really enjoy our food.
  51. The dinner menu was a little pricey (the cheapest dish on the menu was the $8 half salad), there is also a large charcuterie selection to chose from: meats and cheeses as to your liking (mostly priced at $6 per cheese sort).
  52. The space is indeed wonderful, but the food just doesn't live up to the hype.
  53. If you love pork, then this is the place to go.
  54. had their hemp seed crusted tofu salad, and build your own entree which were both amazing.
  55. Bottom line-- good to excellent food, very weak service.
  56. the service can be more speedy, but the food & overall presence of being there makes up for the slow service.
  57. The wine list offers wide variety with affordability and the food is fantastic.
  58. would recommend this restaurant to anyone I knew, maybe not a "food snob" because you can never please them.
  59. The wait staff was pleasant and helpful, as they needed to be b/c of the many kitchen mistakes and poor quality food.
  60. enjoyed our food, but over all thought it was a wee bit pricey.
  61. As stated: the food is good.
  62. really like the egg sandwich with bacon.
  63. don't normally like to wait for a table (and you most likely will here), but the food is so good, that I don't mind.
  64. service was very slow, as sometimes expected for a new restaurant, but when the food finally did come out, it didn't deliver.
  65. The cheese plate was also wonderful, served with a wonderful nutty/raisin bread as well as a fruit spread and figs.
  66. Pulled pork was pretty good, the fries and pickles it came with were excellent.
  67. However, the bacon was awesome.
  68. The service was excellent and the food was perfect.
  69. All in all a great meal, but it was 40$ for both of us (not including tip).
  70. The biscuit was great too, but a bit heavier; and the bacon was thick-cut but very smoky.
  71. Great for a date or even a business lunch, the atmosphere is simple and classy, and everything I tasted on the menu was delicious.
  72. Horrible service almost ruined great food.
  73. The drink was good, but the food was uninspired.
  74. And the eggs benedict afre great with freshly made english muffins.
  75. My girlfriends' chicken sandwich was dry and bland and the bread was too hard to bite into.
  76. The service is great, the ambience is fantastic, I just wish the food was better.
  77. great food
  78. We realized thru watching the tables around us that if we were to come back, we would order the pancakes or some of their fresh pastries.
  79. The owner Amy Frazer (equally as cold as the food) was there and when I told her the food was cold, she simply walked away and told a server about it, no apology.
  80. lunch has great sandwiches--I highly recommend the brisket!
  81. had a snap pea salad, and was excited about delicate flavors and innovative pairings, but instead I received a huge plate of lettuce--half of it frissee--with a few peas chopped up and no seasoning at all.
  82. Of course we knew that already, but it didn't excuse the previously cold potatoes.
  83. Super thick bacon, fantastic brioche french toast, even crepes.
  84. the food is really good.
  85. am not a huge bread eater but the biscuit was so good-it had herbs in it and sme salt sprinkled on top-nice.

Nothing to write home about

by mandizzlesue

I wasn't even going to write this, but because I had a great experience here (not related to the service, mind you), I called to see if I could maybe get someone at the restaurant to send me a menu as a keepsake of that day, whether it be a real menu or just a paper take out one. I of course would have paid the cost to have it sent out, but I was met with a condescending attitude and jeered at by someone who called himself a manager and wouldn't share his name with me, which I didn't appreciate, so here goes!

The good first: I had a life changing experience here with a friend and mentor who took me out to breakfast at this spot. The decor was great, it was well lit with natural sunlight and the menu choices were plentiful. The food was decent (a little bland, but it was healthy) and the portions were great for the price.

The bad: Though seated right away since it was before the Sunday brunch-time rush, we waited over 20 minutes for someone to come over to our table even just to bring us water or take our food orders. To even get someone to us, my friend had to ask another server if someone was coming over. We also spilled some drink by accident, and no one ever brought us dry placemats, basically only bringing new coffee over. Food = a bit on the bland side. Took a long time again for someone to come over and process the bill, as my friend had somewhere to be in the afternoon.

Bottom line: The customer service could use some major overhauling and maybe put some spices/flavor in the food?

Eat here everyday

by Clayton111

Ok, so in my opinion there is no better breakfast spot in LA. BLD has the best eggs EVER. Their, bacon, chicken, lamb, beef is all amazing. Its very pricey btw, but what I say is I gotta eat and I gotta eat good. Service is great, everyone is very friendly. Go!

Completely Underwhelming

by angelineasaurus

I went to lunch at BLD yesterday only to leave feeling completely underwhelmed about every aspect of this restaurant from the service, food, prices and atmosphere. I would give it an overall, resounding, "Meh."

My boyfriend paid $9 for half a caesar salad that was just okay, while my $15 turkey burger was too much brioche. There was a small glimmer of hope in the *almost* flavorful turkey patty, but it was way too olive drenched. Even the fries were blandasaurus rex.

The food took a while to come out, and our server said maybe a total of 10 words to us. Again, he wasn't unfriendly or bad, but just a big bowl of "Meh." There was no "service" being had. He didn't even bring us our drinks or food.

I'd be willing to pay these prices if the food, service or atmosphere gave reason to charge $15 for a turkey burger. But for this less than average experience, it felt silly.

Maybe the B or the D in BLD is better, but I would definitely skip out on the lunch.

They treated our children with respect (even though they were the only children there,) the food was wonderful and everyone there was having a lot of fun. Very comfortable atmosphere.
