great breakfast food, horrible service, friendly weak service, good brunch place, like dinner menu, love spacious restaurant, favorite cheese plate

Great spot for Brunch! I guess even breakfast, lunch and dinner, too as that is their namesake. Cheap drinks and an eggs benedict for everyone. I opted for the cured salmon benedict, what a protein packed way to start the day and not feel too guilty.

The Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes at BLD are fantastic - because the ricotta is so subtly baked into the meal, the chef created one of the fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever tasted. Breakfast, Lunch…Delicious!

One word: PANCAKES! These pancakes are really great. On a weekend, you'll always have to wait for a table, but it'll be worth it.

Their ricotta pancakes will cure your hangover and maybe all the other regrets from the night before. It gets packed at brunch time so just try to look put-together.

Not my favorite spot for lunch or dinner, but I do enjoy their breakfast. Weekends there is a wait so plan accordingly. The blueberry ricotta pancakes are so good!
Nothing to write home about.
I wasn't even going to write this, but because I had a great experience here (not related to the service, mind you), I called to see if I could maybe get someone at the restaurant to send me a menu as a keepsake of that day, whether it be a real menu or just a paper take out one. I of course would have paid the cost to have it sent out, but I was met with a condescending attitude and jeered at by someone who called himself a manager and wouldn't share his name with me, which I didn't appreciate, so here goes!
The good first: I had a life changing experience here with a friend and mentor who took me out to breakfast at this spot. The decor was great, it was well lit with natural sunlight and the menu choices were plentiful. The food was decent (a little bland, but it was healthy) and the portions were great for the price.
The bad: Though seated right away since it was before the Sunday brunch-time rush, we waited over 20 minutes for someone to come over to our table even just to bring us water or take our food orders. To even get someone to us, my friend had to ask another server if someone was coming over. We also spilled some drink by accident, and no one ever brought us dry placemats, basically only bringing new coffee over. Food = a bit on the bland side. Took a long time again for someone to come over and process the bill, as my friend had somewhere to be in the afternoon.
Bottom line: The customer service could use some major overhauling and maybe put some spices/flavor in the food?
Eat here everyday. Ok, so in my opinion there is no better breakfast spot in LA. BLD has the best eggs EVER. Their, bacon, chicken, lamb, beef is all amazing. Its very pricey btw, but what I say is I gotta eat and I gotta eat good. Service is great, everyone is very friendly. Go!
Completely Underwhelming.
I went to lunch at BLD yesterday only to leave feeling completely underwhelmed about every aspect of this restaurant from the service, food, prices and atmosphere. I would give it an overall, resounding, "Meh."
My boyfriend paid $9 for half a caesar salad that was just okay, while my $15 turkey burger was too much brioche. There was a small glimmer of hope in the *almost* flavorful turkey patty, but it was way too olive drenched. Even the fries were blandasaurus rex.
The food took a while to come out, and our server said maybe a total of 10 words to us. Again, he wasn't unfriendly or bad, but just a big bowl of "Meh." There was no "service" being had. He didn't even bring us our drinks or food.
I'd be willing to pay these prices if the food, service or atmosphere gave reason to charge $15 for a turkey burger. But for this less than average experience, it felt silly.
Maybe the B or the D in BLD is better, but I would definitely skip out on the lunch.
Service - Gracious Food - Wonderful. They treated our children with respect (even though they were the only children there,) the food was wonderful and everyone there was having a lot of fun. Very comfortable atmosphere. Our waiter, Parker, was alway attentive, friendly, and service oriented. He made great suggestions on menu items. We had a wonderful time.
a place to avoid....... stay away from the short ribs. the dish resembled a pot of adobe mud....but tasted much worse.......
Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes. I saw 'The Best Thing I ever ate' in Foodnetwork show and it was recommended for the Ricotta Blueberry Pancake at BLD. We went there on Sunday morning and ordered that with their thick bacon on a side. Well, the pancake was huge but I did not taste any Ricotta and the frozen blueberry was lost too. I wished they could make the pancake a little smaller but add more quality. The texture was better than IHOP. However, the bacon was awesome. My recommendation to the chef is to make it look like it's name...where is the ricotta?
DID SHE WAS HER HANDS?. Had to wait 15 minutes for a food server whom we were told was in the BATHROOM! Couldn't they have assigned someone to assist? How about a manager stepping in. The food was wrong when we finally got it and they took another 15 minutes to bring us KETCHUP!... We has to ask for her twice! For a breakfast entree that is $18.95, the service should be as high! So disappointed. We will not return. MY RATING IS ZERO STARS!
what happened!??. The management or the chef must have changed or just got lazy recently!! A little over a year ago I used to come here every week because of the amazing food. Being a chef myself makes me very picky of where I dine. I ordered the chorizo breakfast potatoes because they were one of my favorites and the server brought me something black and bland with one charred lump of chorizo in it. I didn’t even think it was the right dish so I asked the server what it was and if it was supposed to be that color. He said he would bring me a new order and within 30 seconds brought me a plateful of the exact same thing, except darker. The breakfast pork sausage link was also dry and the food over all just a lot more lame than I remember. My girlfriends’ chicken sandwich was dry and bland and the bread was too hard to bite into. The chef needs a kick in the a** or the one from a year ago needs to get hired back along with the manager. He should be more aware of what is coming out of the kitchen!
Amazing food very reasonably priced..
The food at BLD is excellent! The quality and freshness of everything was very surprising. I was recommended to go to BLD by a friend, I read reviews here first and was surprised at the negative reviews. My experience was fantastic. The staff was very responsive and knowledgeable, the food took a reasonable amount of time to order/serve... probably about 15-20 minutes. At the end of the dinner I commented to the waitress about reading some negative reviews on citysearch etc and quickly followed up by saying how amazing my experience was. She told me that they got a new Chef in October, maybe the negative reviews were because of some transition in Chefs, or management?
I think my entree was $20 and my date's was about the same, we got a few glasses of wine, appetizers, and desert and the bill was around $120. I think that is very reasonable, I was expecting to pay more.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone I knew, maybe not a "food snob" because you can never please them.
