great breakfast food, horrible service, friendly weak service, good brunch place, like dinner menu, love spacious restaurant, favorite cheese plate
Great spot for Brunch! I guess even breakfast, lunch and dinner, too as that is their namesake. Cheap drinks and an eggs benedict for everyone. I opted for the cured salmon benedict, what a protein packed way to start the day and not feel too guilty.
The Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes at BLD are fantastic - because the ricotta is so subtly baked into the meal, the chef created one of the fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever tasted. Breakfast, Lunch…Delicious!
One word: PANCAKES! These pancakes are really great. On a weekend, you'll always have to wait for a table, but it'll be worth it.
Their ricotta pancakes will cure your hangover and maybe all the other regrets from the night before. It gets packed at brunch time so just try to look put-together.
The Perfect LA Brunch. I've been going here with my toddler daughter for our routine Saturday Morning "Club Dad" outings since she was a baby and it never disappoints. Okay, its not the cheapest brunch on the block, but using your KCRW membership card for a discount (15 or 20%, I don't recall exactly) brings it into the reasonable sphere. Super thick bacon, fantastic brioche french toast, even crepes. If you get get eggs or anythng else that comes with a side, get the homefries but be forewarned that they have chorizo in them which, depending on your outlook, is either heaven on a plate or vegan hell.
comme ci comme ca. This place is hitt or miss. If you love pork, then this is the place to go. The ambiance is ehhh...nothing to write about. The service is mediocre. I would definitely try it again - maybe for brunch.
Cheese plate!!!. This place is really great and so well priced. The wine list offers wide variety with affordability and the food is fantastic. Service was average but the cheese plate made up for any shortcomings. I will return and highly recommend this place to others. Great for a date or even a business lunch, the atmosphere is simple and classy, and everything I tasted on the menu was delicious. Thank you!
food is pretty good but the prices are too high for what you get.
Went there for dinner and was left feeling a little underwhelmed. For how much they charge we would have been better off going to a more upscale restaurant where you really feel taken care of.
I like the dinner menu because I found a lot of interesting choices and you can construct your own meal with a choice of protein and two sides.
Our server was nice but somehow I still felt like I was at more of a breakfast/lunch spot then a dinner one.
My entree alone was $27 and for what I got that seemed exorbitant and honestly a touch greedy.
I think if they are going to be charging those prices they should step it up a bit with the food and by instructing their servers to make a mental note that their customers are paying high end dinner prices so to wait on them with a little more flair.
Disappointment. I was excited to be in LA for business and to try out some fab LA eateries, however BLD was a disappointment . I wish I had been able to preview the menu ahead of time which would have been a partial warning. For the prices, I should have gone to Grace (or elsewhere). I had a snap pea salad, and was excited about delicate flavors and innovative pairings, but instead I received a huge plate of lettuce--half of it frissee--with a few peas chopped up and no seasoning at all. I had to add salt and I never add salt to restaurant food! This tasteless roughage cost $15.00. I could have and do make better salad on any weeknight at home. The polenta cakes were more like what you might find at a basic Italian restaurant-- doused with red sauce and mushrooms, and the dessert menu was so pedestrian I skipped it. The bartender was trying to be nice, I think, however he lacked the finesse needed for this price range --seemed like he would have fit in better in a sports bar than an upscale eatery. I was told by others afterwards that breakfast is good here and lunch is OK, but dinner doesn't make it.
Awesome wine and cheese!.
My wife and I dropped into BLD for the first time last week. Beautiful ambiance and menu; totally reminiscent of restaurants and quaint wine bars on the Central Coast of CA.
The service was slow, but it gave us the chance to really enjoy our food. Our server was very knowledgeable on wine and cheese pairings. I was really impressed by the presentation of the cheese appetizer: the cheese is placed on a marble slab with nuts, apricot preserves and gourmet bread. Really incredible and so good.
We shared the Catfish sandwich with homemade pickles and coleslaw. Mmmm, it was fantastic. Highly recommended!
BEST 2nd date place!. love this place! food is overall great & consistent (had almost everything on their ever-changing menu & it's all been fabulous so far), the lighting gets dimmer and dimmer by the hour at nite, and the atmosphere is just great. go to 'grace' just down the street on your 1st date and come to this place for your 2nd date- you'll know what i mean. the service can be more speedy, but the food & overall presence of being there makes up for the slow service. you have to try their cheese plate assortment to start!
I love it!!. I love this restaurant - i loved it when it first opened, but i had a few dissapointing experiences last year. Finally, my friends convinced me to go back and try it again. I had dinner in January and have been back three times since.....its fantastic. Brunch is crazy busy but great food. Dinner is calmer and the cheese selection is out of this world. I am so happy to love this restaurant again!
terrible service, disgusting food. My friend recommended BLD, so my boyfriend and I checked it out. What an expensive disaster it turned out to be! It was a busy night when we got there, so the long wait wasn't a surprise. Once we were seated, I realized how close the tables are to each other. I heard intimate details of conversations I should not have been able to hear. I also noticed that TWO tables that were seated after us were served a good 10 minutes before us. Once the food FINALLY came, my boyfriends food was so disgusting that he sent it back. (I've NEVER seen this man refuse food!) The waitress was nice about it, but his replacement plate took an additional 20 MINUTES to come out. We were both eating my plate because we were starving to death, and it was long gone before his came back. At this point, the restaurant was nearly empty as it was nearing closing time. Those two tables I mentioned that were seated after us left 30-45 minutes before we did. To add salt to the wound, the tab was over $100.00 for two entrees, an appetizer, and two sodas. The whole experience was so ridiculous, I would deter anyone else from going, and I refuse to go despite my living a few blocks away. Too many great restaurants in LA to waste your time here.
very good for what it was. We went here for a co-worker's birthday lunch. It's essentially an upscale lunch spot, with dishes like omelets, sandwiches and salads. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Alicia Siliverstone was there when we went.
