worst experience
Tourists NOT welcome at Springbok.
My husband and I came to Springbok (Long Beach) and sat down outside expecting a waiter to bring us menus. No waiter arrived after waiting for half an hour although the place was practically empty (only one other couple in the patio). My husband walked over to the bar and inquired about getting a menu. The bar tender Mike did not want to give him a menu and asked for his identification. My husband gave his driver?s license (from Ontario, Canada) and Mike said it was against the law for him accept this valid ID. The same applied to my British Columbia driver?s license. I am 30 years of age and my husband is 33! Usually I am flattered when I get carded ? but this is the worst experience we?ve had at a pub. Is this how tourists are treated?
The weird thing is we have been to this place before and our IDs were accepted without question (as everywhere else we've ever been to). So was this just a power trip or is Mike the only law abiding bar tender in the US??
Anyway, when planning an evening at Springbok be prepared to produce a passport... or finger prints... or DNA samples... Who knows what else "law" (read: Mike, the bar tender) might ask of us to carry around to be able to get a menu at this bar.
Editorial Review. Waterfront sports bar and eatery serves full menu of South African dishes and American pub grub classics like burgers, wings.
