What People Are Saying About Truxton's American Bistro

In Short – The country cottage decor, set against vast windows, captures a cozy vibe without sacrificing elbow room. Ranging from healthful to sinful, menu items seek to capture the diversity of America's culinary appetite. In addition to worldly dishes like Argentine skirt steak, miso-glazed salmon and Vietnamese avocado rolls, mom-and-pop standards include buttermilk fried chicken and slow-roasted brisket. "Childhood Memories," a stand-out dessert section, features a revamped Hostess cupcake or real Twinkies drizzled in raspberry coulee sauce.
Editor's Tips
- Save Time:
- Take advantage of curbside pickup. Call a half-hour ahead to place an order, and a server will bring your meal right to your car window. Credit cards are accepted for this transaction, and it's offered during all hours of operation.
- When to Go:
- Check out Sunday's champagne brunch featuring hand-carved meats, a custom-omelet bar and all-you-can-drink mimosas.
- What to Drink:
- Try one of 20 wines by the glass, all reasonable priced. Or, indulge in the house's specialty drink, the "Truxton Cable Car," a spiced rum and Curacao concoction served up with a cinnamon sugared rim.

Fine Dining
by marchepedro
I've been here many times and its always been a good choice.
Delicious food. Seasonal menus. Great vegitarian options. A little on the pricey side. The atmosphere is a little upscale, makes me want to wear a jacket, but its still relaxed enough to speak freely.
Its the kind of place I would go when I want to make a good first impression and get to know them.
Great Date Night
by abadoo
My wife works in the area so I met her for our regularly scheduled date night dinner Friday and Truxton's was packed. Service was surprisingly fast and their seasonal menu rocked. We were shocked to find a gluten free pizza and one that tastes better than most regular crusts. Our server told us we could substitute this crust on any of their pizzas even though the menu didn't list it. Turns out that sharing the tomatoe basil bisque, cambozola and fig pizza, rotisserie prime rib (Fri/Sat special) and Big O cookie made for a great family style dinner (oh, plus her Sweeteani and my Margatini). Normally we try a new place each Friday but we're going back tonight for their July winetasting with another couple.
- Pros: service, seasonal menu, Lou the bartender
Worst in Los Angeles
by Kurt657
I have been living in LA for 8 years, I eat out a lot and this is the worst restaurant I have ever been too in LA, I don't even have to think about it. This was a Friday night, all of the other restaurants around it were full and this place had 3 customers, I should have taken the hint I guess but I was hungry. I ordered a Portabella burger and a Pizza for my friend. The bread on the burger was stale and get this, my $9.75 burger arrived at my table without any meat (yes without meat), I spoke to the waitress and she said I needed to order the meat separately, wow. Anyhow, when the meat came out, it was tasteless and the salad in the burger was far from fresh. I got the impression that the burger came to them pre wrapped and they heated it up after it had been in their freezer for some time. The Pizza was very ordinary, just tasteless cheese on stale bread and a little pepperoni, nothing like a Pizza at all. I summary, it is as a nice looking place with horrible food.
- Pros: Restaurant had a nice appearance
- Cons: Food is the worst I have had in Los Angeles
Poor service
by sunnybriteqt
I'm a first time reviewer and I had to review because of the other positive reviews here. I'm usually pretty easily pleased as long as I can get a cheeseburger at a restaurant, so I was surprised to find this restaurant to be very subpar. We waited 30 minutes to get our meals as people that came in after us were eating and finishing before us. Waiters are out in the open taking small breaks in an open dining area rather than in the break area, and this is the first thing you see when you walk in. After commenting on the wait time to our waiter, he explained to us that this was the normal wait time. If that's true, it's clear they are going to have trouble.
- Pros: looks nice, great construction
- Cons: poor service
