Editorial Review for Tokyo Table – by Martha Burr
In Short
A former Tony Roma's has been stunningly updated with contemporary Japanese design into an airy and ambient space. Roomy booths line walls and windows, and light wood gives a lush organic feel punctuated by beautiful rice paper sculptural lamps. Wilshire business folk, families, groups and late-night partygoers weave through the sprawling, relaxed restaurant and lounge. A eclectic range of traditional and contemporary Japanese dishes include hamachi carpaccio, seared beef tataki sushi, dynamite roll, oxtail ramen, calamari salad and homemade tofu.

With outstanding food, big portions, affordable prices and friendly service it's hard to believe Tokyo Table isn't packed every night. In fact you can always get a table without a wait. Creative dishes such as seared albacore over fried sticky rice and a home made tofu dish in a flavorful ponzu-like soup make this fusion restaurant seem like one worthy of haughty service and an overpriced menu, but you'll be pleasantly surprised that Tokyo Table doesn't seem to fit such LA restaurant stereotypes. Try the pan fried pork dumplings too.. like all of their dishes there are lots on the plate, so keep a menu at your side during the meal and order judiciously - and don't forget sake.. nice selection on the menu.

If you come here for traditional Japanese food, this restaurant offers a decent selection of Japanese dishes and in good quality too. However, there are better Japanese traditional restaurants such as the ones in Little Tokyo or Gyu-Kaku. As for fusion food, Tokyo Table is not really comparable to other fusion restaurants in the Hollywood area. The food is not bad, but I would recommend some other restaurants for Japanese food.
