Amazing Sushi. This is a great lunch spot. The staff are extremely friendly, the intimate interior is a great contrast to the outside, and the sushi is out of this world (their crunchy spicy tuna is the best), the price is awesome for Hollywood, and the entertainment factor of probably getting picked up by a tranny going in or out of the place are pretty good. Win win my friends.
Support great local sushi!.
No more Kabuki or Sushi Roku for me! My boyfriend and I are locals to Moon Sushi's area and have become regulars. The atmosphere is completely intimate and the chefs and servers are all really friendly. When you walk in you will be greeted by the whole staff with (what I assume is a) "Welcome!" in Japanese.
I highly recommend the nigiri sushi here - always fresh - especially the albacore and mackerel. I am not sure what kind of magic sushi tricks they do to the mackerel, but it tastes so sweet and flavorful and has the consistency of steak. They put a bit of scallion and jalape?o on the albacore, and the bottom is dusted with a bit of pepper so it leaves a bit of spice on the tongue.
I also highly recommend the Fire Salmon roll, which is a WHOLE lotta fish for $14.50. I'm not remembering all thats in it, but its at least three kinds of fish and contains much more than the average Rainbow Roll. They also don't skimp on the fish in their spicy tuna rolls - now that we've had theirs, its hard to really enjoy the ones we get elsewhere.
Lastly, they only charge $5 for a corkage fee, have a decent selection of wine and a lot of sake choices as well.
Support local sushi and check out Moon when you have a chance!!
sushi is good if you consider mall sushi good..... Because the restaurant is very close to my house, I figured why not give it a try. Not only are their sushi pieces unusually large, the fish was also chewy. I ordered a meal that came with salad and soup. I got my salad after my entree and soup after my salad. I understand going to a place like this if you are craving a shrimp tempura roll but if you want real sushi, please go to sushi Ike!
Quiet place, good sushi. We loved the vibe here. Early dinner in the middle of the week so the place wasn't crowded. Not too surprising the staff was very attentive. But they seemed sincere and nice. Good sushi with decent portions for a reasonable price (especially in Hollywood). 'Nuff said about the environs below. I've been back for similar experiences.
My hidden dine restaurant.
Nothing to say about sushi moon
Because Shshi moon restaurant ~ my hidden tasty sushi Place
So~~good
Thank you very much Sushi Moon See ya~~~
Hollywood's best kept secret... for now!. Amazing sushi with out the "tragically hip hollywood" factor! Finding this hidden gem in a sketchy strip mall makes you feel like you've stumbled upon hidden treasure... and you have! Truly fresh fish artfully served in the nicest atmosphere possible *and* at a great price! The owner Paul and his two sushi chefs Jason & Harry are so much fun and truly accomodating! They even made me my own special roll! I'm going to become a regular fixture!
Editorial Review. Hole-in-the-wall sushi joint attracts locals and businessmen with their creative rolls, sashimi and other Japanese favorites.
Not what I was expecting - Don't let the surroundings scare you off. Nestled between an adult book store and an internet gambling business, just behind a grimy doughnut hut, is Moon Sushi. Looking at the shopping center, it's certainly not a place you'd want to buy and eat anything raw, or so I thought. Based on the other reviews here I decided to give it a try. The first difference with Moon is it's facade- it doesn't match the surroundings, and upon entering, you'll forget two door over is a fast food Chinese place that makes Panda Express look good. Moon have put a lot of effort into their modern, clean decor. The hamachi and ika I had was good and very fresh and the service quick and friendly. I tried their "Fire Salmon Roll", which was delicious. I'll be going back. (Oddly, around the corner next to a pawn shop and a scary taco stand is a *fantastic* Indian restaurant. Very odd neighborhood.)
Super sushi in a chill atmosphere.
What a great experience. We happened upon Sushi Moon in its out of the way location and WHAT A FIND!
The sushi is incredibly fresh, delicious and creative rolls and specials and great service. Be sure to reach out to the sushi chef "Harry" who is quite entertaining while serving up awesome dishes - oh and good house sake. Overall, wonderful night out - so much so that my boyfriend and I went back the next night. Highly recommended in all areas!
RAVE REVIEWS!. Japanese cuisine is my favorite. I ate at Moon for the first time last night. I had been a customer of the two previous occupants of the same restaurant?Sushi Ryo and Ita Chos (spelling?). I had been a fan of both restaurants, and with both gone, I had high hopes I would also like this one. I was not disappointed! I LOVED IT! The sushi was very fresh. The staff were the friendliest (and in a genuine way) I have yet encountered at a Japanese restaurant. Well?I have to say this because they laughed at all of our jokes. The owner was so warm, we chatted with him most of the evening. I usually eat sushi downtown, as for one reason or another I will not be returning to any of the other Hollywood sushi bars I have sampled. But for this restaurant, I will definitely return.
