decent downtown pub. I went to Royal Claytons to watch the World Cup. I guess they had underestimated how many people would be attending as they only had 4 people on staff for about the 150 people that showed up. Needless to say it was a bit slow and took 45 minutes to get a beer. However, the pub grub was pretty decent and I'm willing to give them a second try. However, just know that a lot of the beers on menu are out and the selection otherwise is a bit limited... even when you're the first customers of the day.

Casual English-style pub in Downtown LA. Royal Clayton's has Happy Hour every day from 4-7. There's everything from discounted house wine to specialty cocktails like bloody marys. The bloody I enjoyed was quite spicy. And they even made it vegetarian by not adding Worcestershire sauce.

There are huge pizzas on the HH menu but I opted to get a pork sandwich from their regular menu. Options include salad with no additional cost. I love that. And it was a great salad too, which went well with the not-overly-sweet BBQ sauce in my sandwich.

So much potential to be a good neighborhood spot but.... is it a pub or dining venue... unfortunately right now it does neither well. The service is lousy, rarely do they have wines available as listed, the food... well, lets just say their Shepard's Pie is more like Menudo (-tripe) with thickening agent. They need to decide whether they are going to be a fantastic English pub and get some help with their menu- pasties, sausage rolls, 'ploughman's lunch', Shepard's Pie (with ground beef), fish sticks etc. OR revamp the place and drop the pub concept and cater to the people who live around there with a great organic cafe (like Bloom on Pico). Either way, if your staff are not happy... neither are your customers.

Could be a cool spot. I went here with a group of friends for dinner. I had made reservations a week prior, I was the last person in my group to arrive and found out they did not have the reservation, luckily they were able to accommodate us, I would have been REALLY upset had they not, and I told them. The place itself it pretty cool, very industrial, inside and out. The food too was pretty industrial, not very good, Our server was a good sport as we were a demanding group - he did a good job of attending to us.

Never had a bad meal. Avoid noisy Sunday afternoons (DJ spinning blecch).. The new menu is fantastic! I live across the street and have had everything on both menus at least twice. I particularly love the halibut served over sauteed spinach. And the terrific varieties of pizza--don't miss "the Genoa"--make it terrific for take-out, too. Happily, the Caesar salad is never over-dressed.

Sunday afternoons, however, are hell: a DJ spins immensely irritating music. And late at night, I pity the wait staff: they have to endure a lot of young drunks with a sense of entitlement. I like to go slightly before the dinner hour (quieter) or on Thursdays for jazz.

The food and service is Terrible. However, it is an interesting place to have a drink.. The bar is great, but the food and service is absolutely terrible. We were not asked to be seated upon entering, which is OK. The problem was that we sat right next to the waitress station and received no service for 15 minutes. The waitress walked by us at least 6 times. The bar was not busy at all; she was just serving one large table. She refused to make eye contact and had complete attitude. We finally left the table and grabbed seats at the bar. The bar tender was very good (prompt & friendly). Unfortunately, the food was terrible. Stay away from the barbequed pork sandwich?its serviced cold without barbeque sauce on it. The Turkey club sandwich was also very bland. This place has a lot of potential. The vibe of the bar is great. I am not sure why the owners are not reorganizing the staff that handles the service and food. I have been to Royal Claytons twice and have decided not to go back for food. However, I will go back for drinks as the vibe of the bar is great.

would you reallly go to a British pub to have pizza?. hey,

All the reviews for this place seemed pretty scathing but I went there any ways because it's new and I wanted to see what's up for myself. They were out of a bunch of beers and they ended happy hour at 6 -unlike the 7 o'clock that was claimed here on city search. That was two ticks but I was still pretty down with this spot because I love British stuff.

They have tons of Brit food including "bubble and sqeak" (although made with crab instead of beef or lamb) and they have big giant metal mugs that hold over 2 pints of beer. If you live in the area and want some shepards pie and a giant beer this is a great spot. If you're going to sit down with your wifey and have a bottle of wine and pasta this probably isn't the place.

CANT WAIT FOR THIS PLACE TO SHUT ITS DOORS. Living in the Toy Loft Building, I have been to Royal Claytons a number of times. Each time has been a terrible experince, but I keep telling myself that it will be better next time; I AM NO LONGER GOING TO EAT OR DRINK HERE.

Besides having mediocre food, Royal Claytons has the WORST SERVICE of any resturant or bar that I have been to in LA. I understand that they probably only hire flakiy out of work actors for the job, but this is still not any excuse for the kind of treatment that I have recieved at this place. Not only have I had servers refuse to open beers for me (as well as serving it in the wrong type of glasswear), but I have waited for 20+ minuates at the bar to be asked if I want another drink when I have been the only person at the bar and there have been 4 servers standing around talking to each other (or on their cel phones).

The music is too loud and they are many times out of the beer that you would want (was once told that they didnt have any cold Corona)

Either way, I am saving waiting until Church + State opens across the street. This will be the nail in the coffin that will force Royal Claytons to close its doors...opening up the space for a good resturant in the building

worst service EVER, and I am very forgiving... GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY !!!!

the service is terrible. I have been here 5 times, and every time it has been SEVERLY disapointing.

on one occasion, the 750 ml beer was set on the table, and as the waitress was walking away, I said 'can you please open this for us?' and she said "no", and walked away.

then, when the entrees arrived (about 5 min apart), we picked up pieces of pizza to eat, and were holding the pizza, while talking, and the waitress returned and said that she mixed up the order and that she needed this pizza for another a table. I put the slice down, and wathced here deliver the pizza to another table. Disgusting.

on the same occasion, when I requested Basalmic, the basalmic brought to the table had gone sour and had seemingly coagulated fat in in.

when the silverware wasn't replaced between courses, I couldn't get anyone's attention, and walked over to where the servers were hanging out... they didn't even stop talking to wonder why I was standing there.

The service is REALLLY SLOW, and entrees are often forgotten, meaning that the entrees 'waiting' under the heat lamp get cold.

I live in the neighborhood, and though I was pleased that we got a nice new restaurant, and given this place many chances to offer a mediocre expierience, I am now waiting for this place to go out of bussiness, so we can get a decent replacement.

if you are looking for somewhere downtown:

Cafe metropol

Weilands brewery

Cafe Pinot

Zucca

Watergrill

.... etc.

There are plenty of great places in downtown- THIS ISN"T ONE OF THEM

Great Food but Service needs some improvement. I work in downtown and have frequented RC quite a bit for lunch. Every meal I've had has been great- the Angus burger was delicious, the salmon was very fresh, the veggie sandwich was awesome. I usually go with several co-workers and all have been pleased with the food so I'm quite surprised by the other reviews that say the food is awful. I do have to admit that the service is not the greatest. I have never found them rude as other reviewers have stated however they are just pretty blah. They just serve the food and don't have much personality. I guess it would help if they were a little more pleasant.
