What Our Expert Scouts Say

Milk

4 words: MACARON ICE CREAM SANDWICHES. yes, every one of those caps were necessary. Milk is one of the ONLY places in LA serving up macaron ice cream sandwiches filled with their homemade ice cream in between two airy macaron cookie shells. Thai tea, red velvet & salted caramel are a MUST!!!

There are three competing chain coffee shops nearby, but they have WAY better coffee and if your thighs don't mind, a great coffee crunch shake.

Macaron ice cream sandwiches!!!!! My. Macaron ice cream sandwiches, whoever invented was brilliant. My favorite is the red velvet. This is the kind of ice cream you don't mind eating when it's still cold outside.

Best place to run in and get a cookie! Moist, sweet and buttery. Their ice cream sandwiches are SO GOOD! Ice cream sandwiched between two large macaroons. Delish!

Homemade ice cream bars and bon bons and decadent rich shakes. You come to Milk for ice cream! I love to get a variety of bon bons and when I'm in the mood to indulge I get the strawberry shortcake shake!

When it's unthinkably hot outside, I like to come here for an ice cream sandwich. They have a great selection. And if you're in the mood to eat something extra cute, they have a cupcake I'm the shape of ice cream in a cone.

Is there anything better than a peanut butter and jelly ice cream sandwich? Maybe the brownies and cookies.

Corner ice cream shop is a big draw for the neighborhood. Savory dishes too, but stick to the sweets. Often long lines, especially when hot.

Great unique cool place to get decadent dessert. I gave this place 5 stars because it is just a perfect neighborhood place. It is unpretentious and friendly with all different types of customers including families and children. It felt a little cold at first because of the steel and white wall decor. After a while I got used to it and now it feels comfortable. It's not a place to sit and read but a fun place to snack with your friends or family. I love their chocolate chip cookies, fudge cookies (ooey gooeys?), and their chocolate pudding. Their cakes tend to be a little dry. I adore their coffee toffee ice cream but can't eat much of it later in the evening because I'll be up all night due to the caffein in the ice cream. My favorite ice cream flavor is vanilla but Milk's seem a little too bland for me. I haven't tried their food but will try later.

Yummy Sundaes!. Great ice cream and fun atmosphere. Their sorbets and cakes were not the greatest...but still highly recommend going there to try it out for yourself! :)

Milk is so good. Definitely worth trying.. I went to MILK for lunch and dessert. It was a nice, simple modern place with great food and the yummiest desserts. The chef/owner is one of the nicest guys I have ever met at a restaurant and there is no LA stuffiness or attitude like you find in so many other places in LA. It was very welcoming and comfortable.

It is a definite recommend.

Glad to have found a place that specializes in desserts!. Too bad Milk is not open later, I think it has a lot to offer the after-dinner crowd. Ice creams are yummy, especially the chocolate. Thai tea ice cream tastes just like Thai tea! The mint and mocha bon bons were good, didn't care for the berry vanilla. The gooey double chocolate cookie is TDF, but the blue velvet cake was just so-so - couldn't place what flavor it was trying to be.

Great desserts but bad service!. Go here for great desserts and milk shakes, but take it to go. While they are mainly a counter service establishment, they have runners bring your food to the table. They give you a number and they drop of the food. Our runner, Lawrence, was totally obnoxious the whole time. From the start he seemed annoyed, and asked why my co-workers and I had taken so many numbers. We explained to Lawrence, that we had all paid separately and he then proceeded to take all our numbers. We told him we were still waiting for dessert and he told us not to worry, they would hold on to that at the end of our meal. Well, at the end of our meal he not brought out the wrong dessert but lied to us in order for us to eat it. He told us that he had made this himself and we would like it better than the ice cream sandwich we had ordered. When we insisted, he said they were out of the other one anyway, we discovered later that he lied. When he came back to check on us and asked us how we were doing we asked for a box for our leftovers and he said we could go grab one inside. Why did you bother asking Lawrence?

The food was average. I found that my salad had salty pockets in it. I think they may have used kosher salt to season it. The sandwiches were nice but nothing to write home about. Their desserts I have to admit are good, but I haven't decide if it worth going there.

too good to be true. wow- all the reviews are right on. the staff are super friendly and the food was very tasty. setting is a little antiseptic so if you're looking for romantic atmosphere this isn't the place. we had soup, salad and ice cream. surprisingly the vanilla was much tastier than the coffee. looking forward to exploring the menu.

A New Favorite.. Everybody is posting rave reviews about the Ice Cream and the sweets. And they are great. But don't overlook their sandwiches and salads which is my primary reason for going there. I've had two different paninis there and they both blew me away. One was a Media Noche...which is a variation of a Cuban Sandwich. The other was the Herb Roasted Chicken Breast sandwich which was also prepared to perfection.

The portions are just the right amount, and should leave you with enough room for a desert.

It's really about simplicty. Quality is so key to making good food, and they seem to have that down pretty well. It does get crowded so I like to go for a late lunch when it's quiet and there are no crowds. Parking can be a pain around there during certain times but it's worth walking from wherever you ca find a spot.

Overall I highly advise giving it a try.

Milk does a body good.. The most surprising and probably the best thing about Milk is its simplicity: right in the middle of Los Angeles, and in a busy, bustling neighborhood no less, is a clean, modern approximation of an ice cream parlor. No scene, no fuss, just great ice cream (and food -- which I didn't try, but the menu looked tempting). I went on a Sunday night, and it was so nice to see people stopping in for a cone or a pint, families (with adult children!) hanging out together, and a small (adult) birthday party going on at a table outside. I'll echo another reviewer, but Milk is exactly what the neighborhood needed! As for the ice cream: it's always nice when the cost of ice cream only complements the experience, so I was thrilled to see that one scoop at Milk costs $2.50, including the cone of your choice, and two scoops cost $3.50. The scoops are HUGE, but I went for it and got one scoop of pistachio and one of the banana dulce de leche. Friends got brownie sundaes ($5.00 for all sundaes), which were loaded with brownies and ice cream and served in big, old-fashioned sundae bowls. I also saw a banana split go by, and it was humongous and decadent. The banana dule de leche is a tasty unique combo, not overwhelmingly banana, and with sliced almonds to temper the creaminess. The pistachio was delicious, and I was excited to find whole pistachios in it. This is clearly carefully handmade high-quality ice cream, and I'm looking forward to trying the other flavors as soon as I can. The ice cream case seemed to be divided between gelato flavors and ice cream flavors, but there were about twelve to choose from, so no one should be at a loss here. There was a sign at the register informing customers that Milk will be open on Mondays as of June 4 (I think), which is great news. Take yourself, the kids, a date, friends and check out Milk. You'll feel good all over!

Best Ice Cream Around!!!!!. I have to say MILK is not your ordinary ice cream parlor, all ice cream is freshly made and not frozen like the other ice cream places. I know there is an explosion of different ice cream or yogurt stores within the area (Coldstones,Pinkberry,Yogurt Queen) but once coming here, you will definitely change your mind. There shakes are to die for!!!!!

A bit disappointed. I was very excited to try the ice cream sandwiches at Milk, and unfortunately, I was rather disappointed. At first glance, the chocolate ice cream sandwich constructed from a large chocolate macaroon split in half and filled with a large slab of chocolate chip ice cream appeared to be a heavenly treat ... but then I took a bite and was confronted with mediocre ice cream (not particularly flavorful or creamy ... about on par with ice cream one would get at a grocery store) and a mouthful of slightly soggy macaroons. The more I ate, the more disappointed I felt. It's possible the food and other ice cream treats are better, but my experience doesn't exactly inspire me to try again.
