Editorial Review for Sideways Lounge--CLOSED – by Michael Martin
In Short
Located next door to the Cabana Club, this remarkably grown-up wine bar is awash in rose-color walls, terra-cotta floors and open wood-frame ceiling. The dining room features craftsman-style chandeliers, circular vinyl booths and white-clothed tables with ebony-wood chairs. A patio with its crackling fireplace and overflow couples from the bar. The small-plate menu of artisan cheeses, charcuterie plates and steak specialties accompany a moderately priced wine list of California, French and Australian bottles, with plenty available by the glass.

Where to SitThe patio isn't only for smokers--guests wishing to have a more romantic experience can indulge in twilight dinner near the fireplace.

I frequent the local spots......(Hyde, Teddys, Bar Marmont, Winstons....) Sideways was the worst service of all of them. Went on Saturday at 930 for a birthday. We brought in more business (good crowd) than that place has seen since it reopened. Not only did we never see a manager, but half of our freinds had a problem at the door. However, the food was phenominal. Sliders, Chicken, and Truffle Mac N Cheese was out of this world. Regardless, the doorman are rude, the understaffed servers have a careless/dont want to be here attitude, the bar is huge but only had 2 bartenders, and there wasnt a manager in site. Consuela the VIP hostess was nice, Justin played great music, and the decor has a very cool vibe. Bottom line, it doesnt know what it wants to be. Sideways is a cross between Teddys and Cabana. It offers great food but you may not get what you ordered and it may take forever. Good food, poor service, attitide, and left over crowd. For a place that may be on its way to a third remodel in 16 months it should not lack in these areas, but thats also due to poor management. This place has alot to figure out if it wants to make it. Start by focusing on service. All the right elements are there, but it is lost in itself.
Pros: Great Food, Good music on Fridays and Sat., Great Patio space
Cons: Poor Management, Poor Service, Understaffed

Dont believe the hype--not sure why anyone would have a hard time getting in here- this place is pretty boring and avoid the tasteless tapas platter
Pros: boring-- they were nice to us but attitude is over when you have nothing to back it up
Cons: looks better than before
