The Scene – Blink and you might miss this Italian alcove hidden among the industrial storefronts along this coarse stretch of Melrose. Reminiscent of a low-key New York City restaurant, the small space--anchored by blond wood beams and chocolate brown carpet--softly glows with tiny candlelit tables in white linens. On any given night, owner Stefano Ongaro (who got his chops as maitre d' at Valentino and later as wine consultant at Enoteca Drago) will greet you, making sure you feel as though you've just walked into your long-lost Italian cousin's cucina. The mostly mature crowd keeps the…

Simply Authentic

by warner26

I absolutely adore this restaurant, very cozy and yet full of life.

The menu is simply spectacular, very fun to read. Still have the taste of their Bigoli in my mouth.

Now, I was informed, that they starting a spec promotion every Tuesday with 6 wines by the glass at $ 5, beers at $ 4 and their grilled crisp pizza at $ 5 .

What a steal!

Can t wait to go there this Tuesday

Not worth the time or money

by anisaaa

We went in on a monday night before christmas after reading a review that stated the great food was now cheaper due to the struggles of the restaurant to stay afloat. Well, I can tell you they should have focused a little harder on service and food quality. The menu was limited, which would have been fine but for the fact that there was a lot of radicchio in everything that didn't have meat in it. I tried it anyway- radicchio in lasagna is just as awful as you think it would be. I had a decent mini pizza with artichoke and shrimp, but it was very small and not worth 8 dollars. I have no issue spending money on small amounts of food if its high quality, but I didn't feel I was getting anything special for the price- and the reason they get one star is due to service more than the food. The server was very pushy, I felt like they were rushing to get us out when we hadn't even ordered a drink yet. I'm in the service industry (and I go out to eat all the time to a variety of places) so I do not hog a table all night and refuse to order, so I was annoyed by the unwarranted pushiness, the lack of help- soon the entire place filled up and it became clear he was the ONLY server there- then he took a long time to bring my credit card charge- he gave the card back but no charge slip- which became clear why on christmas eve when I see my account was charged not only for my dinner but someone elses! So I called, expecting to get my meal gratis as this is what my workplace does when they make such an error, but all I got was a Sorry, I don't know when the owner is in to fix it...today is such a bad time (christmas eve). Um, yeah! missing money in my account on christmas eve is a bad time for me too. sheesh! then the owner calls and leaves a voicemail that he will take that extra charge off. Gee, thanks. Way to go above and beyond. What a waste of money! Don't go if you want a nice dinner, or nice service- but if you love radicchio, go for it.
