In Short – Owner Gianni Capaldi, who also owned the Red Buddha, has partnered with The Crue promoter Brad Hoss to create a club vibe that walks the delicate line between glamour and accessibility. The slender space is designed to overwhelm upon entry, with a stripper pole and a flotilla of lovely bartenders flaunting their toned bodies to the left. The blue-hued, Asian-themed interior combines an active dance floor, an expanded outdoor patio and various DVD namesake "play" symbols throughout.
Looks Like A Remodeled El Torito

Don't believe the hype. I'm not sure what type of people are writing positive reviews but if you're looking for a nice place with modern decor and space to breathe, keep looking. It really does lok like a painted over restaurant. Looks like they threw a splash of blue paint on the walls and spent the rest of their money on the sign out n front. Its a narrow long room with a cramped back patio. The bar in the back is literally about 4 ft. x 4 ft. The drinks are average for trendy LA bar but nothing to write home about. The pic on this site makes it look pretty cool with the movie playing on the back wall but thats just about the only conversation piece in the whole place. On a positive note, it may appeal to those lookin to have a low-key nite w/ some friends. More like an afterwork place. The crowd is calm and reserved, no low-life trash here. but no swingin hot spot for sure. The service is average. The "Liquid Kitty" crowd mite like this place, but don't expect the killer martini's. Swing through if you're loookin to wind down in a quiet place w/ some close friends. But don't fall for the super pumped up fake reviews.
- Pros: Kinda dead, you won't be over crowded
- Cons: Not the trendy bar it "plays" up to be
cool happy hour, cheap drinks

ive been here on busy nights in the past, and im not one for big crowds so i hadnt returned. i live down the block though, and frequently walk past it. i was astounded to see the sign lit up and the door open at 7pm on a wednesday.
there was a basketball game on some smallish tvs above the bar, and about five people sitting at the bar.
bartender was cordial, and my rum and coke was only FOUR dollars! he even gave me a free shot when he made some for what appeared to be a couple regulars.
people trickled in and out over the course of an hour and a half. it was never empty and never obnoxiously busy (thankfully)
i will definitely return, so glad to have a chill bar near my apartment.
- Pros: cheap happy hour, chill vibe, sports games shown on tvs
- Cons: personal preference, i just dont like busy nightclubs
no frills hollywood, like i like it

we live down the street and stopped in for a drink saturday night. didnt know anyone and the bouncer was cordial, even though he asked us who invited us (i thought we were screwed at this point). it was a cool vibe... nothing spectacular. but some pretty girls and a nice patio. i will be back.
- Pros: patio, staff
- Cons: nothing stands out
The Details on Play
Parking:
Finding a street spot at night in Hollywood is next to impossible, so your best bet is to fork over for valet, located in front of the club.
When to Go:
Thursday is geared towards the elite bottle service crowd, while Sunday night features karaoke starting around 10pm. The bouncer gets pickier as the night goes on, so try to arrive right at 10pm, or you might have a long wait outside.
Look Good:
The large smoking patio offers its own bar service, and seats are first come, first served except on busy nights.
