A hole-in-the-wall that shouldn't be missed.
Bella Pita is the quintessential hole-in-the-wall -- the type of place one walks by a hundred times before realizing that it's there. For those who are in on the secret -- that the quick-service eatery serves up some of the best falafel and pita in the city, it's a place they wouldn't dare walk past. The made-to-order pitas, like my favorite, the chicken wowshi, emerge piping hot and ready to fill with accessories from the condiment bar. Patrons are happy to over-stuff their pitas with offerings like the fresh tomato cilantro relish, onions, shredded cabbage, pickled vegetables, and tahini sauce. With only three bar stools available for those who want to eat on the premises, Bella Pita is not the spot to take your gal pal for a leisurely catch-up lunch. But at these prices (all pitas are under $6), catching-up is a worthy sacrifice.
