Editorial Review for Bar Nineteen12 – by Alison Kramer
In Short
Once home to a traditional tea room in the ever-sophisticated Pink Palace, this indoor/outdoor space now houses an equally refined bar. Inside, stylish hotel guests, on-the-move hipsters and low-key A-listers lounge in luxury amid jewel-toned sofas and high-backed leather chairs. Palm-leaf fabrics frame an opulent onyx and mahogany bar where patrons can sip on pricey classic martinis or unique, new-age cocktails. A Southern-style veranda--with space for both open and private seating--provides a birds-eye-view of the hotel's palatial grounds and historic pool.

Insider Tips
What to OrderClassy bar cuisine features small plates like black pearl caviar with buckwheat blinis or smoked salmon-topped brioche toast with dill creme fraiche.
Look GoodIf you're feeling very important--or very indulgent--purchase bottle service that includes a fully-stocked mobile bar that comes to you to top off your cocktail.
What to DrinkDrink specials fall into one of two categories: tradition or evolution. The latter, with apple martini popsicles and mojito jello shooters, epitomize inventive cocktails.

Love the drinks. The jelly shot gimick doesn't do anything for me, but it's cute I suppose. Ditto on the lame music. Furthermore, when I was there on Mother's Day, there seemed to be a big goof on the menu. The manager tried to blame it on our poor waiter, like a waiter decides what menu to serve. Overall, I expect a lot more from a hotel of this caliber.

Thursday nights are happening- make sure to get there before 9pm, afterwards it's guestlist or hotel guests only. I loved the feel of this bar in such a classy location... you can sense the glamour of old hollywood, updated with modern chic. Fabulous! One thing not to order: Mohitos... stay with the classic drinks and mixes. The crowd was mixed and we actually had a very random, yet very LA encounter while waiting at the dining room bar. We ended up partying with a former guitarist of Ozzy Osbourne's band and one of his friends. Tip: You can self park for free.
Pros: Style, crowd
Cons: Expensive
