Perfect L.A. Beach spot. Coast is terrific. It really evokes what California (espcially "L.A.") is all about.... Breezy, beachside, phenominal views, and good simple food that is always spot-on! VERY reasonable prices for the area(especially considering it is operated by Shutters- a Mecca for celebs and celeb spotters - they could charge much more without blinking an eye I am sure). Service is quite good, with cheerful staff. For breakfast or brunch try the Lemon-Ricotta Pancakes, or real Virginia ham (grilled), sliced thick with your eggs.

What a charming spot. I can't think of anyplace prettier to sit and eat breakfast or lunch than Coast. You are absolutely eye-level with what's happening outside, beach-goers, Segway riders, the works! And of course, the food is great - try the chicken club sandwich or the tortilla soup. Parking is a little slow, but you can people watch like mad while waiting for your car - such fun!

Exit Stage Left..... My girlfriend and I read marvelous reviews about this establishment prior to making reservations there. Not only did it take an additional 30 min to seat us, but while waiting at the bar to be seated, the bartender never once offered to take a drink order. (He was not that busy) Yes the location is spectacular with an Ocean front view, however your field of vision is parallel with the sand. This was our first visit to Santa Monica and being our last night in town we were looking for something more romantic. What we unfortunately experienced, with all of the children around, was something from a birthday party at Chuck-E-Cheese. Sadly enough we left the moment we sat down and went next door to Catch! Great Plan B!

Fantastic Time at Coast Santa Monica!. I had a fantastic time at Coast the other night! My boyfriend and I came their for dinner and were pleasantly surprised by their service, food and amazing atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! Thanks Coast!

Located oceanfront inside the elegant Shutters Hotel in Santa Monica, this casual spot is a dine-and-unwind oasis, morning noon and night. Outside, the lush trellised patio makes for casual al fresco dining, a refreshing alternative to the more conservative, clubhouse-like interior. A raw bar dishes up ice cold plates of oysters, crab legs and shrimp. Those averse to such fruits de mer will find comfort in American dishes like cobb salad, BBQ baby back ribs and grilled red snapper tacos.

Great setting... but that's about it.. Went twice in 24 hours--dinner and brunch--both times in a group of six. Service was disappointing (slow and sometimes incompetent). Food was overly simple, especially for the price. Overall, best to go in a group of 4 or fewer so you can sit outside where it's quiet, and plan on making the most of the scenery (which is gorgeous) and waiting a while for your food.

excellent semi-casual beachfront spot. Great atmosphere, great food. Sit at the bar or the outside patio. Fish tacos are wonderful; butterscotch pudding not so much.

The terraced downstairs dining room of the ritzy Shutters Hotel evokes a Mediterranean ambience, coupling a magnificent view of the Pacific with an imaginative menu, which highlights the sun-warmed flavors of Provence and Tuscany. Dishes include roasted halibut, wild mushroom risotto, calamari and a variety of pastas like the strozzapretti, which pairs long pasta-shaped dumplings with house-made chicken sausage, white beans, brocollini, tomatoes and onions.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, MEDIOCRE FOOD, NOTHING GOOD TO SAY AT ALL. THEY RUINED OUR EVENING!

I ESPECIALLY DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS!!!!!!!! IF YOU DECIDE TO BRING A CAKE TO AVOID HAVING TO EAT THEIR OVERPRICED DESSERTS THEY WILL CHARGE YOU $4.50 PER SLICE TO CUT THE CAKE FOR YOU AND WILL NOT TELL YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!

FOOD: MEDIOCRE. Meat and fish: tough/oversalted, side dishes: bland, garlic fries arrived cold/missing the garlic. Pasta: so spicy that it was unbearable to eat.

DECOR: WHAT DECOR? A TV on a wall does not constitute decor. NO atmosphere. And as for the sea side location ... It is located on the beach, but there is a catch -- it's below street level, so the name is very fitting - your view is not the ocean but the feet of the people and the pedals of the bikes that pass by the restaurant.

SERVICE: WAIT STAFF - OK, MAITRE D' - AUFUL. Refused to take a bogus $60 charge off our $1000+ bill. Instigated an argument with us. Proceeded to talk to us in an extremely condescending manner. Loudly insinuated that we were lying right in front of our guests.
