In Short
After opening her hugely successful "resto-lounge" Parc, Shereen Arazm has brought out an old favorite from the northeast--a cozy Italian gem she helped run in Toronto. Catering to both power brokers and neighborhood families, pizza makers flip dough in the open kitchen while heartier appetites can take in house-made pastas or traditional Italian meats and fishes. The stone-walled dining room's vintage chairs and chandeliers help pull in the wide, open space. And depending on where you sit, you can amuse yourself with the black-and-white Italian films projected overhead on one of the walls.
Hits: The paper thin pizza crusts are a crispy, airy treat.
Misses: The acoustics can be deafening once the evening crowd rolls in, so if you want to enjoy a little conversation with your meal, stop by before the sun sets.

There was attitude from the moment we walked in. It was loud and the tables were smashed together, killing any possibility of a romantic evening. The bar was limited, and drinks were overpriced. Food was unimaginative and poorly executed (they screwed up pizza) -- especially for these prices. Bad service, bad food, bad drinks bad ambiance, and big bill. I will * N E V E R * go back.

The atmosphere was great, the wine was overpriced ($18/glass...is this the Four Seasons?), but it was great, and the menu looked extensive. But DON'T be fooled. This is a restaurant that thinks it's better than its customers. My husband & I have never felt so belittled by a restaurant's absurd policies!! The bread is dry, can we please have some butter, or balsamic vinegar? NO, we believe you should only eat bread with olive oil. The calamari looks good, can we please have some dipping sauce? NO. What about a side of marinara, we know you have that in the kitchen. NO, we don't want you to eat our calamari with our marinara. Hmmm. The pizza comes out, it's too dry and flavorless. Some Parmesan cheese? We just saw you bring some to our neighbor for their pasta. Absolutely NO, we don't want you to eat parmesan with our pizza. Excuse me?????? It was so rude, so belittling. To have the ingredients, to bring them to the table next to you, but to outright REFUSE to bring them to you? It's inexcusable. No paying customer should be made to feel like we're not good enough to sit in your seat. Like your opinion of how to eat pizza is better than mine. You can eat your pizza how you'd like, but with all due respect Chef, you're making food for ME to eat! It's not your meal when I'm paying for it. It's mine. The manager went on to argue with my husband, who is Italian, and who has lived in Italy, that this is the European way. What is, rudeness? Well this is Los Angeles, and your restaurant is across the street from the Grove, for God's sake. And here in California, restaurants earn loyal customers with courtesy and delicious food. Not insults and dry pizza. Btw, this is the first restaurant I have ever written a review about, ever...

Just always an enjoyable meal for me and my clients. Most of them have returned on their own. I would recommend to anyone. I especially enjoy the big table in front
