Editorial Review for Melrose Bar & Grill – by Alison Kramer
In Short
Formerly home to the Mediterranean mainstay, Doug Arango's, the new, earth-toned space is decidedly more casual. A bounty of booths and wooden banquettes surround an open kitchen and a flat screen TV, where a thirsty, after-work following clamors for affordable food and drink. The new menu has preserved the Arango fave the duck burger with gouda cheese and cherry ketchup. Also offered are an array of chalkboard specials, raw seafood appetizers, cheese plates and inventive--but still accessible--options for lunch, afternoon snacks and dinner.

Insider Tips
Look GoodAnother Arango special to remain are the off-menu barbecued ribs, which are a favorite among longtime loyal customers.
Know Before You GoThe bar accepts walk-ins, and offers full menu service during lunch and dinner.
What to DrinkThe wine cellar from the last restaurant is still intact, but more casual crowds can find comfort in a user-friendly, wallet-friendly short list of featured bottles.
The ExtrasRacks of newspapers, entertainment trades and fashion magazines provide ample reading material for solo patrons.

Long time patron, first time reviewer. My new favorite menu item is the "Make Your Own" sandwich. Pick and choose your favorite items and build you own sandwich to exactly your taste. My favorite combo is the roastbeef, horseradish sauce and arugala. I comes on a freshly baked roll and their own veggie chips. Btw, the last three times I've been here I've seen Courtney Cox from "Friends" eating there also. Since she doesn't even look like she eats at all, it must be good if she picks here to eat!

Atrocious. 1 star is a stretch. The worse service I've experienced anywhere, EVER! The waitress rolled her eyes when i asked 1 question, then disappeared for 20 minutes before taking my order. It took 40 minutes to get my salad and only after asking nicely for it! The food was eh, and the waitress threw attitude the whole time. I had to return my chicken cause it was more a hockey puck then anything else. They didn't even ask if i wanted something else. At the end, i went up to Julie, the owner to nicely tell her that my experience wasn't good, and she stood there talking to her friends for 15 minutes while i stood there. When she finally acknowledged my existence, she rudely asked if i was waiting for her, then i replied that i need a minute of her time, she abruptly said, 'you'll have to wait', then went back to chatting. I can't imagine going there on a date or with friends, it was outrageous how rudely they treated us. Have i mention the waitress kept pointing at my friends when asking them what they wanted to eat? Yeah. Save yourself and go anywhere else!
