Nice People, Poor product. The owner was the one who colored my hair, and while her technique and manner were impeccable, my hair came out with dull, flat, lifeless color. I think the product they use lacks intensity and gloss. I don't mind dropping 250 on my hair if it's fabulous, but I think I would have been happier if I had done it myself (which I've occasionally done) with a $10 box. I usually go to upscale places to have my hair done, because time off for me is a rare treat. Normally, they'll trim my hair for free, or at least be upfront with the price. Shades gave me a 120.00 trim without letting me know it would cost that much. I came home with hair I hate. $250 lesson learned. At least they were nice.
Citysearch Editorial Review. Owner Susan Henry's impressive resume includes stints at big-timers Jose Eber, Prive and Umberto, so it's no surprise that when she decided to open her own Beverly Hills salon on Doheny, just south of Wilshire, people took notice. But what's especially noteworthy is the fact that Henry's own ammonia-free line of haircare products is accented by her commitment to unlocking the healthiest color process possible for all her clients. Everyone from highlight-wanting eco-friendlies to lowlight-loving pregnant ladies--or anyone looking for a safe, overall base shade for that matter--is in luck.
Organic, Eco-Friendly Salon. This organic salon is a gem for those of you who want to look beautiful, but don't want to be exposed to all the harsh chemicals that are typically found in salons. I'm not sure if there are any other similar salons in L.A., but this is the place that I would recommend if you want your hair and nails done with organic products. I especially can't tolerate the smell of nail polish, which is why I get my nails done here by Jamie. She uses all kinds of essential oils from start to finish. It's such a refreshing change from conventional manis and pedis. If you want to do less damage to yourself and the environment, check out Shades.
