beautiful red decor, rude bartenders, great beer, love loud music, playful rear patio, good singles bar, pretty decent sangria
Where's my Queso?. I was not very impressed with Eastside Luv. I have been there a few times and was surprised that they did not have a very impressive wine selection. If you call your establishment a "wine bar", you would think you'd have a great selection. I'm not a sommelier, but I do know somewhat about wines. Also, their gimmick is, if you buy a bottle of wine, you get some cheese and crackers to go along with it. Well, I never got my cheese and when I dared ask for it, I was repeatedly ignored by a rude bartender (everytime I've been there). It seems this place is trying way too hard to find it's niche in Boyle Heights and yet it tries to exude this ambience of an exclusive wine bar with a haughty ATTITUDE! The person who controls the music, played the same playlist everytime I've been there (4 times total). However, I was impressed that they had Bob Dylan on their playlist! The burlesque dancers were somewhat mediocre in their style, they really should dance at Bordello, where the environment is more accomodating and appreciative of their performances and not full of drunks who act like dogs in heat!
Not your typical Bar.
It's a good singles bar.
Burlesque show is alright and jazz music seems to be out of place. Eastside Luv has very good potential but needs to find their identity. Decor is great and they have their own version of 'Cheladas'.
DJ is below average and it seems he's playing from the ipod eventhough the DJ has the proper equipment to mix. This place gets overcrowded on weekends so be ready to have less than elbow room.
Overall its good bar to check out once or if your in the Eastside. Would go again for the Cheladas.
Bad Service. This place is cute, but if you want horrible service this is the place to be....the bartenders were so rude they walked around pretending not to see you and they were selective on who they wanted to serve.....pretty lame if you ask me. Actually they were pretty lame!!
sick in the head. no room for no one and wait till u see what' s on the tv screen. Girls in a bra and underwear having to tie up a girl and sticking her in a trunk REAAK,DISGUSTING. If you care about loved ones or your a loving couple this is not a place for you to go to.
Guranteed Good Times!. whether you want to go out and have a relaxing night or dance the night away Eastside Luv is the place to go. Beautiful decor...easygoing welcoming environment....its great...if you haven't been to Eastside Luv i highly recommend it :)
nice to look at, but over-priced, too loud and burlesque, what burlesque? oh yeah, and where's the wine?.
DESIGN: worth seeing. the dug-out style bar is one of a kind and the decor keeps the eye entertained. the rear patio is fun and playful, with the salvaged windows, faux window boxes, and skylight.
WINE
SELECTION: its not really a wine bar. they were out of cabernet. what kind of wine bar has no cabernet? i chose the sofia coppola champagne which came in a cool bronze aluminum narrow can with a sipping straw! that part was great, but....
PRICING: after a while those $8 glasses of champagne really started to make me feel like I was getting royally reamed.
SOUND: the music was so damn loud, my friends and i had to shout in order to communicate. i love loud music, but this was too much! maybe the music was loud to encourage dancing, but none was going on. the dj was okay... lots of 80s and mostly mediocre. highlights were michael jackson and madonna, so you can imagine what the rest was like.
BURLESQUE: I went to this venue with my heart set on seeing some burlesque, a medium which i thoroughly enjoy. while the website stated "8:00 p.m.," the "show" actually started at midnight. about $50 worth of drinks later, FINALLY, it was time for the dancing. but alas, the performance was over before it started. just one dancer, and she was great, but only one dance, a great metamophosis from mexican folklorico to an alluring vixen; one prance across the bar and she was gone. wow, what a dissapointment.
ATMOSPHERE: i believe the owner's point of view has more to do with making a buck than creating a cool space for people who enjoy art and performance. this place will attract unknowing people who will feel proud to report having spent the evening there (and getting reamed by the high prices) in oder to feel cool. i felt sorry for the suckers and won't go back. the next time i'll go to sam's hofbrau and enjoy my $4 beers and burgers.
Good Local Spot. The red decor is fun and the low bar is worth checking out. They have a few beers on tap and a pretty decent sangria. The place is small but definitely worth visiting if you are in the Eastside.
Great Vibe. This is some Classy Hole in the wall! The servie is great and the place is gorgeous! I Love the music and they have a great Beer and Wine selection. I give it two thumbs up and a jiggle! : )
Sexy Boyle Heights wine bar rocks out with local artists, live burlesque shows and mariachi-oke sing-alongs..
In Short
Just off historic Mariachi Plaza, this corner bar--formerly the popular 1940's Metropolitan Club--hosts an artsy and diverse downtown scene favored by artists, longtime residents, businessmen and politicians. A crimson glow washes over cushioned plastic-covered chairs at the sunken bar, while the wall of booths beneath red velvet wallpaper features vintage Mexican movie posters and contemporary Chicano art. A variety of live performances feature "mariachi-oke" to burlesque. Draft beers include Hoegarden, Fat Tire and Tecate, plus homemade sangria, and 25 wines by the glass.
