Curry tastes like the pan it was cooked/stored in!

by LBCLady

I called the manager to provide feedback, and before telling him about the (metallic) taste, I let him know I enjoyed the dish otherwise. After telling him about the taste of the pan or metal utensils (what I felt was constructive feedback) he dismissed me, adding that the use of multiple spices were a factor, and that it would taste the same if I ever returned.

Well, the metallic taste, and lack of concern for feedback given by customers probably account for the fact that there were no other customers in the restaurant during the 12 noon lunch hour on a weekday. That should have been my clue. 3 stars for the curry - 2 for the manager's attitude.

  • Pros: Chicken curry has great potential.
  • Cons: But it tastes like it has remained in the pan too long!

Best Asian Cheap Eats on Ventura Blvd! Japanese Curry, Ramen, and Chowder!

by CantWaitToEat

Love to Eat Here! They have Lots to choose from! I've had most of their menu in the past month - Japanese Curry, Ramen, Spam Musubi, Garlic Rice was the bomb! They even started serving a really good corn chowder (where do you find that?!) Twinkie Tempura was a dope dessert! The DaKine Fried Rice was the best rice i ever had, i poured their homemade BBQ sauce on the rice, wow! Can't go wrong with this small yet great eats! good find! thanks to Mr. Yamaguchi for bringing me here!

The Service is really good and attentive, even though the servers are the cooks as well! wow very talented! nice modern environment, and big flat screen to watch the laker game. Just a fun hip place, I hope they can do well, they seem to being doing ok, considering this be economy. good food good value good service seems to be what keeps them there. Love it! I recommend!

Cons - maybe the service is too nice! they like to chat there a lot! maybe too nosey - asking my name and what I do. I guess its ok. I'm just more quiet person. they try hard there.

  • Pros: Great Food great value
  • Cons: maybe too nice staff? Music and other customers a little too loud?

Charming local spot

by jennster

I discovered this place while randomly driving by one day. "Curry Up"...I got such a kick out of that name, I just had to check it out. I had such a wonderful experience. The menu was just as fun as the restaurant name. Come on..."Holy Shitake" curry? I had to get that. It was a shitake mushroom and tofu curry. What a fabulous combination. I have since been back several times. Here are my favorites: Kahlua pork curry, shitake curry (upgrade to the Ultimate Homestyle, which adds spinach, corn, & potatoes...yum), and the vietnamese coffee. Prices are a tad bit steep for curry (just a tad), but it's worth it for the charm of the cafe.
