Editorial Review for S Bar – by Whitney Friedlander
In Short
Renderings of Versailles mixed with a hodgepodge of richly colored couches and chairs give this tiny space a bohemian vibe. While star-power sisters Hyde and Area are heavy on exclusivity, the lack of bottle service or VIP areas have well-dressed nearby loft-dwellers mixing with the paparazzi-prone. Just as eclectic are the DJ's music choices--Silversun Pickups to Kanye West--and a house drink menu that runs from the vodka-infused Celery Superstar with chili pepper to the gin-and-honey Bees Knees.

Insider Tips
Look GoodThere's no cover and evidently no guest list, but with a capacity of only 100 people get there early.
Know Before You GoAlthough they share a wall, there's no way to get in from the restaurant. Being at one doesn't garner access to the other and no, you can't order sushi in the bar.
ParkingThe space shares a valet with next door Katsuya--drivers will take your car for a 10-spot before 11pm or $15 after.

I can't comment on the actual bar because, like some others who have written here, I wasn't deemed worthy enough to enter the hallowed interior of S Bar. To be honest though, after this experience, I don't think I ever want to. I prefer to party at bars where the vibe doesn't remind me of the "you're cool, you're not" mentality of junior high. I was supposed to meet some friends here for a few drinks on the early side of a Saturday night. I got there around 9:30...there was no line outside, but they had their velvet ropes up and at the ready anyway. I had read on this site and others that you didn't need reservations, yet when I approached the doorman he asked me if I had one. I gave him the names of a couple of the people in my party, but he was all "nope, don't have those names." So I texted my friends inside, and three of them came out to show that I was really meeting them, but the doorman wasn't swayed....even though there was no line, he kept saying it was "too late." I ended up standing outside for about 20 minutes hoping my friends and I could change his mind, but we didn't. When I left there was still no line. Looking back, my suggestion is, if you're going to try this place, sock the doorman in the face and dump his body in the gutter. Otherwise, you're just gonna have to take your chances. A better plan is to pick another bar that isn't so elitist, a place where you're not going to have to worry about a member of your party being denied entrance on the basis of some unknown criterion that's made up on the spot by the jagoff out front holding the clipboard. There's plenty of places in Hollywood like that, but evidently S Bar is not one of them.
Pros: Realized I never need to party at S Bar.
Cons: Doorman ruined evening with friends.
