Point Break Live! Editorial Review

In Short
This absurd spoof is based on the 1991 film starring Keanu Reeves as FBI agent and former football star "Johnny Utah," and Patrick Swayze as surfing bank robber "Bodhi." The comedy parodies Reeves' performance by selecting a new Johnny Utah from the audience each night, who reads his entire script off cue cards with the help of a stunt-doubling production assistant. Included in the action are car chases, armed robbery and two skydiving sequences--all on a small sunken stage in the cocktail lounge of the Alexandria Hotel.

Point Break Live! User Reviews

Hysterical and very original

4 Star Rating: Recommended

I went to see Point Break last Saturday night after a friend recommended and got the tickets. This is really underground type play, and you see it from the venue. It is a bar type place in an abandoned building, and the stage is set up with lots of folding chairs all around. The crowd was very hip and cool, the kind I'd expect to see in nyc more than LA but that's probably my ignorance of the LA theatre scene. The concept for the play is brilliant - this is a re-make of the movie point break but the audience picks Keanu from the crowd (10 or so people gave it a try) and with the help of cards that person leads the whole play. The effect is hysterical, because it become clear how bad the script is, and that the lines that he gets are borderline retarted, but its really funny. The whole Point Break cast is quite good, and there is a lot of creativity in the way they deliver the play (props etc). I would say Point Break is totally worth an evening. Good to go with friends. You don't have to see the movie to enjoy it... i still haven't...
