Editorial Review for Anisette – by Martha Burr

The Preview
Former four-star chef Alain Giraud has partnered with Mike Garrett and Tommy Stoilkovich (Falcon, Voda) to open a quintessential French brasserie with a Santa Monica Farmer's Market-driven twist. Parisian-born Giraud traveled through France for design ideas and furnishings including antique mirrors, mosaic tiled floors, aged wood fixtures, and a zinc bar, which springboards aesthetically offthe building's historic architecture. Dinner menu highlights include classic dishes like steak tartare, roast chicken and sweetbreads, plus seasonal offerings and separate menus for breakfast, lunch and late-night service.

...Ah, the promised land. A restaurant yet to open its memorable doors... With names that breathe promise, a culture which defies us to not acknowledge its profound and unique place in history. The realms of perfume, architecture, science, medecine, fine art, governement by the people, the most complex cuisine, and yes...even the annoyingly puffy bichon frise; all have been beautifully brought into the world by the french culture... And now this...an always exciting, as-of-yet-untasted restaurant! French stylings and a French chef...in a city by the sea... the beach breeze will prove but an afterthought in the light of the fare offered, I am sure. I will not be the first to visit this fine bit of French promise...but to those that will, I hope you enjoy the thrilling taste of the unknown mixed with sincere effort and vast potential. And finally; why am I writing this? ....Because there will surely be many reviews to follow, some glowing, some nitpicky, some effusively loving, and some forceably critical....and so I write the intro for a restaurant which I have to assume will fullfill it - for anything with such effort and love put into it surely deserves the grandest assumptions...and thus, this free review. I am certain you shall live up to it in time....un petit jardin francais, dans la ville by the sea.... et nous esperons!

Pros: I've never been...it hasn't opened yet

Cons: I've never been...it hasn't opened yet
