In Short – The former Eurochow has been transformed by sparkling modern Japanese decor to create a dramatic and stunning two-story space under white arches and domed ceilings. Mod leather chairs surround dark tables, while mirrors reflect glass, orchids and burnished wood. The upstairs offers dazzling views of a huge sushi bar and lively Westwood diners of all types. Former Matsuhisa and Katsu chefs prepare high-end traditional sushi, plus dishes like braised Kurobuta pork belly, hot mushroom salad and sea bream with golden kiwi.
Great sushi for UCLA students
by saratown19
Yamato is my favorite! I absolutely love the 911 Roll. The food is always 50% because of happy hour. This is the best restaurant for the college crowd. Always full of UCLA students who are sake bombing before going to their frat parties. They recently got a DJ for saturday nights so expect to hear House and Hip Hop music while dining.
*Ask for Pim to be your server! She is the Best!
- Pros: Happy Hour, Food, Service, Music
- Cons: They close too early
Amazing Sushi in Westwood
by dco22
Yamato is currently my favorite restaurant! The sushi is above average, the staff is very friendly, and the crowd is mostly college students from UCLA. Whenever I walk in, I am greeted by the Hostess by the door as well as all the sushi makers at the bar. They have a DJ there on Saturday nights to play House and Rap music while you dine. Ask for Jenna to be your waitress. She's Hot!
In my opinion, Yamato is the best restuarant in all of Westwood.
- Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Prices, Music
- Cons: They close too damn early!
Awesome for the sushi timid!

We wanted a quick bite on our way out to a party and stopped in. They had great 1/2 price happy hour specials. We got to try several different rolls, salads, skewers, and tempura and the total was less than $30. It has an upscale decor but it is in the center of Westwood village and it is not pretentious. It is come as you are with lots of students in their UCLA sweats and t-shirt as well as people dressed for an evening out. Service was adequate and parking is always a challenge in Westwood but I would defineately recommend giving it a try if you arte in the neighborhood.
- Pros: Great atmosphere
- Cons: parking
