Very mediocre sushi, overrated

I have ate at a lot of sushi restaurants in LA and wanted to give Luckyfish a chance especially after seeing it air on the Hills. While the revolving sushi bar was very high-tech and impressive, and the atmosphere was hip, I was quite disappointed with the food. The sushi was very mediocre, nothing special at all. The servings/portions were small and the miso soup was served out of a Miso soup machine, not freshly made. Even though the sushi was freshly made, it was lacking taste and flavor. Would not go back here again!

I LOVE THIS PLACE

Randomly went here with my boyfriend one night, not expecting much, and we fell in LOVE with it. The fish is ridiculously fresh and I'm tough to please when it comes to sushi. Really tough. Epically tough. The only comparable sushi I've had is served at places like Nasawa or Sassabone - those "trust the chef" places. Every single dish is heaven. Plus the waitress was a sweetheart. The second time we went, the food was just as good, plus we had an amazing waiter AND the manager was there and was the coolest guy ever! Seriously. I can't believe this place isn't packed, but then again it's kinda nice, cause it makes it our special place. :). I especially love the albacore and tuna dishes under the cold dishes section, and the albacore sushi on its own. My boyfriend is a huge fan of their salmon and dynamite. SO GOOD. You all must go so that it's still here when I get back to LA in 5 weeks!

• Pros: AMAZING food, great service, friendly waiters, great location, not as pricey as you think
• Cons: still kinda pricey since its in beverly hills. but reasonablely pricey!, we've only sat outside so i don't know what the ambience is like inside!

convenient, stylish, tasty sushi for those on-the-go

I enjoyed lunch at Luckyfish on a weekday. Sure, I was leery of the conveyor-belt delivery system, despite the special system they have of pulling unselected dishes off after a specified period of time. Though some dishes suffer from this approach, such as the miso-glazed tempura rock shrimp, basic sushi fared fairly well. Their simple cucumber and seaweed sunomono was excellent. The menu is varied enough to suit anyone who enjoys Japanese food. The service was excellent, and our server was happy to replace our slightly doughy tempura shrimp from the conveyor with a nice, hot, crispy order directly from the kitchen. The short rib special needed a bit of work, as it was a tad too salty and was far too chewy; perhaps some braising or pressure-cooking would have helped.

Overall, though, the food was pretty good. The most novel and notable aspect is that one can roll in there and begin eating almost immediately, facilitating a healthy, enjoyable lunch in very little time. It's also a perfectly comfortable place to spend a little extra time, nibble a few extra orders of food, and have a few drinks.

For serious sushi aficionados looking for a top-notch meal, this is not the place. For someone wanting a fun, quick, tasty lunch, it fits the bill perfectly.
