Editorial Review for Blue Mango – by Ali Dubrow
In Short
After stepping foot in the store, customers find themselves immersed in a sort of blue wonderland. Fluorescent blue walls surround modern white stools and an equally bright blue counter, which houses dozens of fresh fruit and cereal toppings. Yogurt fans pop in to enjoy their choice of four flavors--tart, vanilla, peanut butter and of course, blue mango--all of which are nonfat. Up to four toppings may be added, among them cereal and fresh fruit, depending on the size ordered. A patio right outside allows Sunset Strip shoppers to eat their treats in peace while watching the local businesspeople, rockers from the Roxy and leisurely dog walkers pass by.
Hits: Blue mango, the store's signature flavor, is not to be missed, and the store's design is both eclectic and mood-boosting.
Misses: Flavor options are limited, and aside from peanut butter, cater only to the tart-tasting crowd.

Insider Tips
ParkingYour best bet is to park on the side next to the store and feed the adjacent meters--there's a two-hour parking limit from 8am to 10pm, excluding Sundays and holidays. Other meters on the street run until 2am.
The ExtrasIn addition to regular yogurt, shakes are also available, consisting of yogurt and frozen fruit; ginseng or green tea may also be added.
Know Before You GoThose seeking a tart experience should try the blueberry flavor while a more traditonal sweet dessert can be had with the plain vanilla.

I tried Blue Mango’s regular, plain vanilla, and compared to Pinkberry’s or Red Mango’s, it just didn’t measure up. It lacked flavor and tasted a bit watery. If I go back again, I’d definitely select a different kind of fro-yo. I did like the store’s cool blue interior, and the place seemed to have more cereal, nut and fruit topping options than Pinkberry or Red Mango.

Although I am pretty much in opposition to this ridiculous regurgitation of the frozen yogurt fad, I have succumbed to trying out a few of these places simply because Mashti Malones is often too out of the way for me to get there. (If you don't know Mashtis, you're not an Angeleno.) Anyway, when i saw that this place was opening up, i thought it was totally lame, but now i am a believer! I've gone back several times and each time I am very happy with the experience. I've done the plain/vanilla but have moved on to the Blue Mango Blueberry --simply the best! The consistency of the yogurt is creamy, almost like ice-cream, and very refreshing and offers just the right amount of pucker. THe toppings always appear fresh (i prefer fresh strawberry & Apple Jacks) and the blueberry yogurt is surprisingly versatile with just about any topping. THe space itself is fun with the obligatory mid-century plastic pendant lamps and even bright blue astroturf! The location kinda sux (no foot traffic!) altho i suppose the owner is counting on kids from the nearby Roxy & Rainbow Room to walk on in... Pinkberry what?? YOu can keep your long lines ... I'm doing the Blue every time :)
Pros: Finally, a creamy, yummy fro-yo!
Cons: Location is off the beaten Sunset path
