Where Chic European Decor Meets L.A. Nightlife - Medusa Lounge

  • Los Angeles Lounge
  • Private Parties & Live DJs
  • European-influence Food

Medusa Lounge in Los Angeles sets the scene for a truly unique atmosphere with arched stone, stained glass and intricate wood carvings. Much of Medusa's decor, such as iron gates and a crystal chandelier, was collected from movie sets over the years. After dinner hours, Medusa continues to serve cocktails to the hip late-night lounge crowd.

Bratwurst remains on the Medusa Lounge menu as a tribute to the historic German restaurant Lowenbrau Keller but patrons can also enjoy a selection California comfort food dishes with European influences. Deep fried ravioli and the Medusa burger are must tries. On tap at Medusa Lounge are several specialty beer selections.

Editorial Review for Medusa Lounge – by Andrew Rosenblum

In Short
The owners have retained some, but not all, of the homey Teutonic charm of the restaurant that once occupied this space. Stuffed animal heads loom over the back of the rectangular space, and circular wood, carvings of lions adorn the wall and the beer taps. Since the lounge attracts a young, hip crowd, red cushioned chairs and benches have replaced tables, creating a more loungey scene. The $16 pitchers of German beers and American microbrews are an excellent value, and the wine list, while modest, features interesting selections from Napa, Italy, and France.

Insider Tips

Parking

An inexpensive valet stands outside the lounge, but you can also often find free street parking on Beverly.

Know Before You Go

Make sure you get all food orders in before 11PM, when the kitchen closes.

Fun Fact

The former owner was a set designer and has pieced together the atmosphere of Medusa Lounge from old movie sets. Their iron gates and a crystal chandelier were collected from movie sets over the years.

are you for real? This restaurant is so beautiful and full of potential! The guy to girl ratio is 10 to 1. Too bad my girlfriend and I waited at the bar for 45 MINUTES to get a drink. The bartenders were all women. The one closest to us spent the entire time flirting with the guys and trying to sort out their credit slips. Everyone was complaining about the wait, it wasn't even that busy! The asian girl with the tramp stamp was so rude to everyone, men and women. She got my drink wrong twice because she walked away before I was finished ordering! It is very obvious that these bartenders have little or no experience, step it up a notch, medusa lounge and you will have something great!! Right now you are coming across as amateur, rude, and DIRTY! The bald doorguy was very nice and apologetic. I will give this place 6 or so months before I even THINK of going back.

Pros: rad decor

Cons: poor, rude, slow bartenders

We have been to Medusa a few times now and we will continue to go there. We absolutely love that it is about 10 minutes away from our downtown apartment, the valet is only $5, we've always had either a table or the choice to sit at the bar. One downfall is that the menu isn't very big so you don't have a lot of choices, but if you go there enough, you'll find what you love (Sweet potato fries). They usually have a DJ late night on the weekend and usually play great music and a great mix. The cocktails are so much fun to try them all and find your go to drink (try The Blue Violet martini). We've never had a bad experience here and we'll continue to dine here or just come for the drinks!!!

Pros: Great drinks, great sweet potato fries, very chill place

Cons: Small menu

In the old Lowenbrau Keller space, the owners have trimmed the kitsch to create a friendly German-themed lounge.  See the full editorial review.
