Editorial Review for The Garter – by Josh Stephens
In Short
Don't expect mango martinis or passionfruit mojitos at this Westside drinking den, where the entire menu reads "beer and liquor." Old-fashioned crimson wallpaper, black chandeliers and leather booths create an Old West brothel meets Crate & Barrel lounge feel. Fireside sofas, a pool table, bar seating and a Spartan patio in front provide plenty of places for an interesting mix of off-work suits and regular Joe 20- and 30-somethings to get cozy and share bottle service or a beer with some friends. Bright and relaxed on weekdays, the small space comes alive on weekend nights, when DJs spin, and bumping and grinding ensues.
Hits: This place is far more laid-back than many of the trendy places in nearby Venice that are pushing drink prices to new heights. For now at least, the party on Lincoln is open to everyone.
Misses: With a pool table, jukebox, DJ and sumptuous interior sometimes reserved for bottle service, there's a sense of trying to be all things to all people. And the location, amid auto shops and other grunge, creates a jarring contrast with the hip vibe that it's trying to create.
