Editorial Review for Palihouse – by Mar Yvette

In Short
Harkening back to the days of studio stays, Palihouse combines a boutique hotel experience with long-term options. Prettily manicured plant beds beckon from the balconies of the European-style structure, but that's about as far as the feminine touch goes. Inside, the decidedly masculine space is awash in subdued hues, from the dark chocolate brown carpet and cushy sage chairs in the intimate lobby lounge to the crisp white linens and pared down accents in the 36 studio and one- and two-bedroom guest residences. Catering mostly to industry locals and traveling entertainment professionals, the property also has an outdoor courtyard brasserie, an espresso bar tabac and a roof deck for sunbathing.

Hits: Those who are familiar with spots like Oakwood, Aloft or Element will appreciate this location's less corporate, more boutique-y feel.

Misses: With rates starting at $289 a night, you better hope the expense account is healthy.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I'm an LA native and am constantly scouring this fair city to find places that make me feel like being instantly transported to some other faraway city. That's what I fell in love with at Palihouse. I had to get out of my house for the week due to some construction and needed a place to crash but also wanted to find somewhere that felt allowed me to feel like I was on vacation. It's so hard to find a decent hotel that isn't overrun with tourists or hipsters. When a friend of mine mentioned Palihouse I decided to give it a shot. The decor of the place is right on the money. A mix of a rustic old world european feeling with a modern edge. My room (which was basically a totally decked out apartment) came with everything I needed to survive for the week. I didn't need to go out to eat every night because I had my own fridge and stove. And when I did leave to eat, it was at their courtyard restaurant. And we all know that genuinely good food at a good price is a hard find. Basically everything about my week there was great. It's also just off of Santa Monica blvd. so you're not too far away from the action but also not in the overwhelming center of it all. I could see this becoming the place for people like actors, directors, etc. who are in LA for a long time and don't want to stay in some lame hotel where they are going to be bothered. Very impressed and highly recommended.

Pros: Great decor. Friendly staff.

Cons: Parking was sometimes a drag.
