just so cozy wine bar, small place, just so cozy feeling, perfect spot, recommend definitely, beautiful store, fabulous italian wine
Good wine flights and communes well with others!. Heading West on Glendale Blvd, JUST before Glenfeliz on RT --last before hitrting the 5--sharing lot with Starbucks as visual locator....... tasty morsel plates, but very good pizza they order from neighboring pizza place. Few French and California wine selections, which is nice to feature Italian, Argentinean and other worldly wine choices......... AND THE LOBSTA TRUCK VISITS ON OCCASION, which they welcome (as they do all visitng food trucks) great combo with their champagne flight. A definite destination to support Atwater businesses. Thumbs up! Heads up, though, the trek to the "dungeon tasting cellar" is not always well-lit...... wear your "thinking feet!"
Great place for wine. I wish this shop were located closer to me. They have the most well rounded wine selection I've seen in a long while. They lack the pretentious attitude of a lot of LA places and are incredibly knowledgeable. Simply tell them what kind of wine you prefer and ta da, dozens of recommendations that are always right on the mark. The downstairs tasting room is quaint and cozy, the perfect place to open a bottle to share with friends, eat some food and relax.
NICE AND COZZY!. Well i went with my girlfriend, to try this new place out and it was great. The place is nice and intimate but small. The flights arent expensive and the staff were REAL REAL freindly and imformative. I liked this place, would recommend to anyone.
Great wine bar. I thought it was such a nice, cozy lil' wine bar. It is great if you are out on a date. I liked the wines they offered for the wine tasting and not expensive. We were well informed about the wines and thought it was a great experience. It is a bit small, but since a lot of people don't know about it....makes the size just about right. Definitely recommend it!
Found some fabulous Italian wine here!. I live in Silver Lake so I'm not too far from 55 Degree wine bar. I stopped in on my way home from work and had a lady give me lots of information about wines, gave me suggestions (since I said I wanted to try something new, good and inexpensive), and told me all about their wine tasting events. I was quite impressed with the service, wines and the beautiful store. The underground cellar where they conduct the wine tastings is a place that I intend to visit in the very near future. Just saw their July offer. If that's not an incentive, I don't know what is!!!
Most amazing ambiance.....!.
As soon as you walk down the stairs and enter this special place it feels like you are in another place in another city. There's no place like this in all of Los Angeles. It's amazing how one minute you can be in a wine shop and then simply by walking down the stairs you are transported to a dimly lit, european feeling, wine bar that can is just so cozy and so romantic. It is a perfect spot for having a glass or two of wine before going to dinner for a special occasion, or for going with a group of girlfriends for a night of catching up, or meeting someone new for the first time. Great date spot....make sure to ask Traci about the wine selection.
if it's silent - ask them to put some music on - they'l do it and it will make for an even better atmosphere.
Atwater's cool neighborhood wine shop keeps the party going in the wine cellar with curious locals and smart sommeliers..
In Short
This Atwater Village wine shop is no snobby Beverly Hills boutique--here, the thrill is in descending to the dim wine cellar to taste at the bar, and inside the chilly lockers themselves. In the crowd you'll find your garden variety of Eastsiders, sporting vintage duds and mussy coifs, along with a few hipster parents with baby carriers in tow. Three daily tasting flights, ranging from $8 to $18 for a trio of wine, spotlight various themes and regions of mainly Italian selections.
Hits: This is a great place to learn about Italian wines, especially more obscure labels from small producers, in a well-focused but fun setting.
Misses: Ninety percent of the wines are Italian, so fans of other regions may be frustrated by the limited range of choices. The food is limited to cheese and meats, a downside for vegans.
