SIENA IS CLOSED.
It is a shame, it was a great place.
As of January 18th Siena closed it's doors.
According to reliable sources, an increase in rent for this little spot has sealed the deal to close her down.
Best new find in Pasadena. Worst street in Pasadena, best food. Real Italian food, worthy of the west side. Food is delicious. the owner/chef Robert seems to be a perfectionist. Food comes out right every time. We've been there 9 or 10 times already and have brought friends. Ask the waiter what "special" for the evening. It may not be on the menu, but it'll be great. Costs a bit more than a chain like Louise's, but the food in really worth it. Decor is plain , but we go for the food.
best italian. i have been to siena 4 times now, my husband and i love it...it is refreshing to have a restaurant of this caliber in pasadena. we need it...the service is slow, the restaurant is fairly new...so hopefully they will work out the details. the mushroom apetizer is phenomenal and so is the sushi...
Great Eclectic Italian. Checked out this place last night. The little Italian bistro on a quiet street was hopping and we waited about 10 minutes to sit down. We had a friendly and attentive server Marcus who obviously knew the menu well and patiently answered our many questions. Lots of interesting looking items on the menu. My friend and I tried the tuscan soup, the wild boar pappardelle and the halibut with clams and risotto. Everything was simply delicious. The tuscan soup was hearty and nearly a meal in itself. The homemade pappardelle had an awesome exotic flavor yet ate like comfort food. The halibut was cooked perfectly, unlike so many places that overcook their fish, and the flavor, like everything else we tried, was fantastic. Never had such great clams, risotto and halibut combination before. In all, this was a great experience and Siena is by far the best Italian place I've been to in a very long time. I'm definitely coming back to check out everything else on the menu.
PLEASE RESOLVE SOME ISSUES! WE WANT YOU TO MAKE IT IN PASADENA!.
We ate there last night. It is located where the old Greco's and countless other failed establishments have been... The food was excellent as was the wine, but there are a few, apparently reoccurring, issues with this place.
1. The service, while polite, was inexcusably slow. There were only 3 other tables all night long and it took about 20 minutes to take the order, another 20 to bring the wine and on and on...
2. The tables/chairs are very uncomfortable and really belong in a "Soup Plantation" environment, not a cozy Italian bistro. The floor is slick, so the chairs and table are continually sliding around. Rugs would be a huge help...
They really need more marketing as no one seems to know anything about them. I did walk in one afternoon a few weeks ago to check it out for a potential lunch with a client, but at 1:30, there were 3-4 dirty tables, only one table still seated, and about 3 waiters clumped at the hostess stand (far from the front door, another issue) that never bothered to invite us in or acknowledge us.
Hope the owner reads this and addresses the issues as we really need this place to make it in Pasadena!
you will want to return again and again. We are delighted with everything we have tried on the menu. The chef is creative and friendly. Since we cannot resist returning almost every week, he knows what we like and has added things off the menu that have made our meals even more special.
Great food - from appetizer to dessert.
A friend of a friend threw a "mommy" event at this restaurant. It was great because we had the opportunity to sample a wide range of dishes from appetizers to desserts. Every single dish was delicious. I absolutely love Italian food, so I'm pretty picky with the taste. Siena suits my taste. I heard the Chef interned at Patina. Some of the dishes I remember that were outstanding include crispy shrimp with noodles wrapped around it, truffle oil mushrooms and filet mignon bruschetta, lasagne, and -get this- ice cream with black pepper. I'm definitely going back.
Great place to rent out too.
