I love working here! – For those of you wondering where I am, for those of you wondering what is that building with the BB's on it, and for those of you who read these reviews, here is a first person account of Body Bar.
We are an intimate cozy boutique spa with a great team of individuals who come together to offer the best in services and products. We are fortunate to have a clientele made up of locals who want spa services without having to leave the hood as well as those who travel from far distant shores (west side, orange county, etc.)
We are constantly evolving and fine tuning the services we offer and the products we carry. We have therapists who pursue advanced education and bring a wealth of information to each and every treatment they do.
Along with waxing, threading, skin care, massage and body treatments I offer Bellanina Face Lift Massage and Raindrop treatment with Young Living oils.
Come see us soon!
Huge Letdown! Bummer! – The massage was such a huge letdown, I am bummed. Valentine's Day weekend, my honey & I book a couples massage. Back story, the front desk make the masseusse sound like the second coming of Christ. The massage was rushed, choppy, had little flow. Sure the pressure was good, but there was no intuitive response to my body. I felt that my energy was sucked dry, leaving me in a bummer state of mind. The rest of my day was just kind of in slow motion. In fact, I had to book a massage at Voda spa to correct the ineffectual massage at this place. I do not recommend this place; save your money & sanity. Besides the women's locker room is dirty. The Chill room was anything but relaxing. The front desk girl was kind of rude; hello I'm giving you money.
Ahhhhhh...I'm a new woman – i've been here several times since body bar I've been coming to this spa off and on since it opened. I've never has a bad experience. I always leave wondering why I don't make an effort to come more often.
Today, I did a pilates class there in the morning and then stayed for a massage and a steam. I feel like a changed woman today...in a very good way. ;)
Kara teaches a pilates mat class there every Sunday am. She was trained in NYC with the infamous Romana Kryzanowska (who trained with Joseph Pilates). This is the real deal -- tons of focus, attention, and spirit.
How fun / luxurious to then slip on a comfy rope, take a shower and steam and then have a massage to even further lengthen the muscles?
I had a fantastic massage with Jesse, who I think is fairly new there. He has great energy, strong confident hands. I definitely disappeared into the massage completely. He seems very intuitive and experienced. I highly recommend.
The place is very cute / sophisticated. Great music (soothing), nice lighting, very nice artwork (which seems to change). Always very clean and super relaxing. Staff seems very accomodating - there is always something nice to drink (teas, spa water, prosecco or wine) and little snacks (chocolates or little cookies).
Despite being right on Sunset Blvd in Silverlake, it feels like a mini-oasis once you are there. I always spend more time that I plan to because I feel so relaxed.
They do cute events sometimes too. Seems very neighborhoodly. Nice to have a healthy centre with a great vibe right in Silverlake.
I will definitely keep returning.
Cute, Convenient, and Warm – I was very surprised when I went to look up their phone number and saw some nasty reviews on this site! I've been to this spa several times and I've always found it to be a very warm, welcoming, relaxing experience. On weekends they have wine and mimosas along with scrumptious chocolates and other goodies. They have an extensive menu and free consultations so you know just what's right for you.
I keep asking myself what could've possibly gone so wrong with these other people? I think the therapists are very sweet and good at what they do. I don't like to talk during my treatments and they were really chill and respectful of my needs. They recommended product but not in a pushy way and it was stuff I really needed!
As far as the lack of parking, WELCOME TO LA PEOPLE! I mean how many places besides malls have their own parking structure? Not that many! They even offer valet across the street on weekends which is the only time I've ever had a problem finding it on the street so it's perfect.
If you're the type of person that's used to big over-the-top fancy spas in Bev Hills then this might not be the best place for you. You can clearly see just by driving by that it's a small space, and I think they did an amazing job with it considering that it used to be a big empty storage facility back in the day. The transformation is incredible.
I mean come on, smelly trash cans out front? Sounds of cars and busses? This is the city and if you want to go to some cold mall spa surrounded by a concrete noise barrier then that's your perogative. I however prefer a small, intimate space where I'm recognized and greeted by name. I've never been bothered by noise while I'm there, and I find the space very modern, clean, and chic.
So in closing, stop trashing my Body Bar! This is an "urban spa" with a laid back neighborhood feel. This isn't Burke Williams and it doesn't try to be. Go with the flow and you'll have a wonderful experience.
East LA haven – Lovely staff, good style, and pampering all just blocks from Dodger stadium!
Highly Dissapointing in customer service – Before leaving town for an extended family getaway, I booked a facial there. First let me tell you the ineptness of the booking person in asking for my CC info. It was three times where I had to repeat the numbers and exp date. I had asked about parking, I was directed to valet at Dusty"s which is a block away. The recieving area is hot, cavernous, and stale. The front desk did not smile and only gave a scripted welcome. The locker room is small, dingy, and stuffy. Soiled linen was overflowing from the hamper. The steam shower is not kept clean. My facial did not start on time; once in the room, I felt rushed. Much too chatty. I was not relaxed at all. There was alot of talking outside of the room; people walking to and from whatever. No surprise at all, a hard sell for facial product at the exit for me to buy. Since my visit, I have recieved a constant fusillade of email blasts.I just felt compelled to write on the negative experience I went through at this subpar establishment.
quality. value. just what i need... – I have been to the Body Bar Spa twice for a facial and just tried a massage this weekend. I'm already addicted to their Sircuit Skincare line. Can't live without it.. After starting a new job and gaining a long commute, I needed a massage to work out the stress in my shoulders. After I enjoyed a steam and cup of tea, my therapist massaged all the kinks out of my neck and shoulders. I bought the Body Bar tension relief balm that was used in my massage so I can use it while I'm stuck in traffic! I had a great experience and took advantage of their monthly special so it was a deal too!
Finally! A 5 Star Spa on the East Side! – The only thing missing from my favorite neighborhood in LA was an amazing spa... and now I've found one!
After driving by it a few times, I decided to check it out online. The website was very promising so I called to book a Peppermint Massage and a Pumpkin Enzyme Facial. The end result is that I could not be happier! When I booked the appointment, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. She walked me through the menu and helped me decide on the perfect pair of treatments for me! She also told me about the valet parking situation which made parking completely stress free for only $4.50.
Once I arrived the staff was friendly and extremely accommodating! I was greeted with a mimosa and delicious homemade ginger bread. The receptionist walked me back to the locker room where I had a rain shower before finishing my mimosa in the relaxation room.
The therapist was EXCELLENT! She was highly intuitive and had a healing touch. The pressure was deep and firm but relaxing at the same time. The cooling sensation of the peppermint massage oil with the hot stones was something I wished would never end.
My facialist was equally amazing. She was so sweet and so knowledgeable! The treatment was awesome, everything she used smelled so yummy and her massage was great! I wasn't even expecting a neck and shoulder stone massage during my facial. She put me on a regime, sold me some great organic skincare, and gave me a list of a few items to pick up a whole foods next time I'm in there to help my skin.
The price was reasonable for this top notch spa. The customer service I received was amazing and the entire staff made me feel like a friend- no pretentious vibe here at all!
I will for sure become a regular at this great neighborhood spa and recommend it to everyone!
Foul odor from the start – From beginning to end my visit was a bad experience; one I do not wish to repeat. there are two sets of residential trash cans at the front entrance wich smell terrible. the greeting desk is a makeshift soap box desk. The girl cannot handle multiple tasks like talking to me and handling the phone. the locker room is too small; cannot handle more than two patrons in there. My massage was weak in pressure and technique, I was not asked what areas my body was aching or what I desired from the massage. I think the girl did not even bother to read my intake form, where I specificaly wrote down what my tension was located. When I asked for more pressure, there was no discernable differance. It was very poor, lacking, a complete waste of my time and money. I felt the girl did not put any effort in giving me a quality (a good one at least) massage. During the session, too much traffic outside the room. Doors slamming, feet shuffling, mouths running. I could even hear the public buses running going on Sunset. The music is anti relaxing. A banshee would have been better. Oh yeah, if you come to this place bring plenty of quarters for the meter b/c there is no parking.
Downward spiral for this spa – Late last year I had a wonderful facial from a knowledgable, sweet, brunnete esthetetian named Louise. Recently, since the remodeling, My facial was choppy, without direction or purpose. Since it was being sold with an Oxygen machine experience, I felt wanting more. It was below par. The esthtetian seemed all thumbs, way too chatty. There was a hard sell for product at checkout. The music is the same from 9-10 months ago. the drainage in the showers are clogged up. The steam shower to get hot takes a long time. The water in the relaxation room (ha ha) is room temp; no ice. The lack of parking is quite obvious. I live nearby so I walked there. The little front desk girl displayed a false motivation smile. Clearly this time around it was a bad experience, therefore it was my last visit to body bar. This place is out touch with the paying customers.
