What Our Expert Scouts Say

This is a completely vegan Japanese restaurant. It's pretty unknown, even in the vegan world. So good, you can get rolls reminiscent of some of your non vegan favorites.

I'm not one to seek out vegan food, but if you're in the mood for vegan Shojin has you covered! Tasty and healthy Japanese fare. Food so good you won't miss the meat.

Delicious. Healthy. Japanese. Vegan takes on staples like sushi rolls and ramen, served with lots of flavor and eye-pleasing presentation.

A place where a meat eater can eat!. I'm a hardcore meat eater, and for me to endorse an organic macrobiotic restaurant is pretty big deal. With that said, I cannot pass up their Seitan Pepper Steak - because it tastes so good you forget the fact that you're eating something healthy.

Since it is located on the 3rd floor of the Little Tokyo Galleria, it's an excellent place to have lunch/dinner after doing some grocery shopping downstairs, or before a night out of some karaoke downstairs on the 2nd floor.

It's also located just a few blocks south of the Gold Line Little Tokyo/Arts District station, which you can support your healthy meal with a healthy walk!

Delicious and healthy Japanese food. I LOVE Shojin. I would go there all the time if I didn't live on the other side of town.

Shojin is great because it has such a unique menu - where-else can you find an entirely vegan Japanese restaurant? Vegans can come here and eat sushi without second guessing the ingredients. And they have a diverse menu, including an amazing steak dish.

The atmosphere is also beautiful - great for a special occasion.

The food is very healthy. It is organic, macrobiotic, and mostly made in house.

Citysearch Editorial Review. Opened in 2008, Shojin has attracted a cult following among vegan foodies and Japanophiles alike for its fantastic (and healthy) fare. Appetizers run the gamut from spicy shiitake tempura to a zesty French onion soup. Entrees are bursting with flavor, like the spicy kung pao seitan. But what the hidden 3rd floor gem might be best-known for is its outstanding vegan desert selection (check the spiced pumpkin tart and specials, too). Located inside the Little Tokyo Square mall on the third floor near Honda-Ya (Suite 310).

Great food, great atmosphere. I went here for valentine's day, and they had a 7 course special that had just about everything on their regular menu. Everything tasted so good, definitively recommend the detox drinks.

The service was great. This is a place that you should check out.

Healthy, and tasty, too. While we were eating there the owner came and talked to us.

One of the things that was mentioned to us

was that they always get the original, natural and best ingredients they can get.

And no matter what the cost to himself he would never lower the standard.

He said because the good health and happiness of his customers are his goals,

and not money making.

It makes him very happy, and his life worthwhile, obviously.

I really believe it.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food, too.

I highly recommend it.

organic and vegan restaurant = good? this place is. Yep, I haven't seen many organic restaurants or vegan restaurants that are good but this one has the best of both worlds and not bad either. The bento was filing and with a japanese element to it as well. Try the bbq daily lunch bento with their brown rice which tastes pretty good for brown rice.

I think this is one of the few healthy food places i've seen in a long time that didn't disappoint me.

best vegan food i'v had so far. I'm not a vegan but i found the food very tasty and fresh and most of all i did not miss meat. I recomend the Barbequed Saitan it was delisious and i really could not tell that it was not made from meat.

The ambiance is very relaxing, cosy, dimly lit enought to be romantic yet bright enought to uplift the sprit, and the staff very friendly and certious. I would not hesitate to dine here again.
