In Short
A collection of small patio tables along the sidewalk and a patch of astroturf are the only indications that the former Il Sogno Dolce space is again open for business. There's no sign identifying this little wonder (which, in this case, might be a good thing), located right next to the uber-hip Thomas Chase salon. Inside, the entryway is simple, more function over form, and is essentially just a place to pick up a to-go order. But the outside patio is like a hidden gem--spacious, inviting and ecologically friendly (it's lined with a lovely "living wall"). The menu is mostly Mediterranean, with dishes like homemade hummus, baba ganoush and kabobs mixed in with more American standards such as broiled salmon and meatloaf. Animal products are free-range and organic whenever possible, produce comes from the Santa Monica Farmers' Market and the bread from a local bakery.
Hits: With a menu that is reportedly 80 to 90 percent organic, the restaurant curries favor with the health conscious neighborhood crowd. Presentation is nice and servers are friendly.
Misses: The name itself. Kreation Kafe? What were they thinking?

Surprisingly, the meat seems to be better than the vegetarian fare. Yet another chef that does not grasp how to make good vegetarian food? That’s not unusual, but here they didn’t get even some simple things right — serving bland tomatoes and blackened, tasteless, dried-out corn-on-the-cob. (Granted they’re not in season, but if the flavor isn’t there, why serve them as standard side dishes?) Quinoa was tasty but not cooked to its full fluff. Prices as expected for the location on Montana: $24 for either a meatloaf dinner or a "hot tapas" sampler (despite what the online menu says).

My husband and i were going to Father's Office but alas it was packed with no where to sit... so we looked across the street and saw Kreation. He was skeptical.. We ordered the sampler plate for an appetizer- so good and huge! We then ordered the beef kabob to share and it was also pretty good. Our waiter was friendly but could have been around a bit more as it was not busy at all. They also let us bring in our own beer from the Blind Duck- so we got to drink what we wanted after all. The second time i went with a girl friend of mine and was less thrilled about the service. The food was still great... oh they also brought us bottled water when we did not ask for it. Sort of annoying... i don't need to pay 4$ for a tiny smart water.
