Editorial Review for Coco's Variety – by Kim Cooper
In Short
Car culture blogger Mr. Jalopy runs one of the Eastside's most unique shops, or as the storefront mural proudly proclaims: "Kit Cat Klock HQ." In addition to those wacky 1930s-designed eyeball wagging feline timepieces, visitors will find a constantly revolving display of affordable refurbished bikes (cruisers, 10-speeds, mountain and BMX), inexpensive reverse-osmosis-method drinking water, novelty Japanese toys like the mysteriously popular Hamster's Lunch, vintage print tablecloths, rare science fiction paperbacks, cool green retro Jadeite cake plates, votive candles, bike gear, solid American-made tools, household and personal remedies, mod 1970s German desktop speakers, unworn 1980s Swatch watches, glass jars stuffed with weird plastic toys and other unexpected things that might prove useful or amusing.
Hits: Clever labels on the more obscure items cue a visitor in to the shop sensibility: those cheap, ugly clown clocks are a dig at neo-pop artist Jeff Koons.
Misses: Since customers are encouraged to plop down deposits on interesting bikes in the repair queue, more desirable vintage bikes rarely make it to the sale sidewalk.
