Sound! A new series by Andy Carey Editorial Review
In Short
Utilizing wooden discs of different sizes, thickness and multiple layers, Carey's abstract work is focused on depicting the tonality of tunes, by using particular colors and forms and arranging them in a specific way to visualize a sound. One painting, for instance, expresses a Beatles tune from the album "Revolver." The goal is to illustrate the music graphically. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2003, Boston-born Carey, a graduate of Montserrat College of Art, has taken part in group shows, solo exhibitions and has worked on private celebrity commissions as well. He may be best known in hipster circles for the three paintings--"Snap to Southern Soul," "DECCA Records" and "Stack-O-Matic"--he exhibited at the grand opening of trendy men's vintage clothing boutique Everything's Jake in Los Feliz.
