Good food, everything else horrible. The steak tasted good although tough. Great salads and empanadas. Loud, don't bother coming with people because you won't hear a word anyone says. Weird staff goes to great lengths describing the food and menu to large groups which will leave large tips, but will not help in any way help smaller groups, not even to refill a glass of water. So packed in that it is difficult to exit your seat when anyone else is sitting. Extremely cold. Overall, a miserable experience. But the food tastes good although the prices will set you back quite a bit. If you are a loud insensitive alcoholic you may fit in, otherwise it's not worth the misery.

Excellent!!. What a find! Malbec has a wonderful atmosphere, superb service, and excellent food. This is a quality establishment for Pasadenans, not for the Old Pasadena tourist crowd.

We had a wonderful waittress -- very friendly and personable.

We had the most incredibly delicious empanadas! Tender, juicy steak like you've never tasted before.

It's easy to give this place five stars.

Great new place for steak. I've recently been introduced to Malbec and I have to tell everyone about it! Great atmosphere, friendly service and the food is done so well. I felt as though I had to wait a while for my dinner, but when I finally got to chowing down, I realized it must be because the chef takes his time, it really shows. The skirt steak is delicious. So juicy! My fiance got the Rib Eye and next time I will for sure order that! It's exactly how I like my rib eye! The flavors are really different because its an Argentinian place, so it's sweet and very flavorful. Recommend it for a really nice mellow dinner or date night!

Excellent service, ambience & food. You know you've found a gem, if on a Monday night, there's a solid crowd of locals enjoying Argentinean food and wine for hours past closing. Coupled with the semi-open kitchen, deep red walls, and wine display, Malbec is the type of place I look forward to coming back with my friends and family.

Empanadas - This is what Malbec is famous for. My 2 favorites were the beef, and the spinach+cheese. We split up the empanadas in half & passed them around the table to sample.

Antipasto platter - For the adventurous & ideally for more than 2 people if you want to make it to the main course. The prosciuto with mozzarella was absolutely right on the texture, and the crumbled goat cheese on top of bruschetta and grilled garlic bread was a winner. The squid was a group favorite as well.

Skirt Steak w/ chimichurri - Another famous dish that is beautiful when ordered medium rare. They give you a knife, but it was only for decor as the meat peeled back with the touch of the fork.

Rib eye steak - Amazingly grilled with the most perfect roast garlic-demiglase sauce. I had a hard time choosing between the two steaks, but I'm leaning towards this one if you have a heartier appetite.

Noquis (Gnocchi in beef stew) - Soft, chewy, and most ideal in beef stew! Great winter dish.

Next time I want to try the creme brulee with citrus & work my way through the dessert menu.

The BEST All-Around Argentinean Place in LA. Malbec is a such a treat. EVERYTHING is delicious and homemade, and everyone is so sweet and real. I really like their raviolis, and all the soups are yummy (and vegan.) Oh, and the specials are always amazing.

There's also one in Toluca Lake that I don't think is on Citysearch here yet, which is fabulous.

Incredible Argentinian cuisine. I absolutely loved this restaurant. Located away from the crowded and noisy old town pasadena, Malbec had incredible appetizers and a cuisine plates created from scratch (the pasta in hand made!!). I absolutely loved the food, the wine was exquisite and the service was second to none!!!!

Possibly best food I've ever had. The waiter was very friendly, and treated us like they'd treat regulars at a small Italian family-owned restaurant. The food was like nothing I've ever tasted - I've had lots of Mexican and Italian food in my life, and this was like a combination of the best of both for something even better. Try the crepes, the steak, the squash soup, and probably everything else! If I'm ever back in Pasadena I'll be going there!

Fantastic empanadas. This is a great spot to avoid the tourists in Old Town and get some good Argentinean food! I frequently enjoy the freshly made empenadas. The waiters are always knowlegable and prompt.
