What People Are Saying About Delancey

In Short – Bowery owner George Abou-Daoud calls it an "Italian gastropub," but this spot really hearkens back to NY's old-school ristorante, updated with a funky Hollywood beat and tasty microbrews. LES expats revel under pressed-tin ceilings among marble and exposed brick that nail the gritty East Coast atmosphere. Meanwhile, boisterous Paramount studio folks, young families and foodies help create an eclectic, warm neighborhood vibe. Some come for the impressive beer list, others for the Italian specialties like fried calamari, Italian speck with quail egg, saltimbocca, spaghetti…
Editor's Tips
- Where to Sit:
- For groups stopping by for drinks, there's a cool little horseshoe-shaped nook of leather banquettes off the bar, great for up to 15.
- What to Drink:
- The beautiful old oak bar has a wide range of top shelf liquors, while the beer list offers 20 on tap ranging from Boddingtons to Old Rasputin, as well as a beer flight of four picks for $8. There's also a nice mix of moderately priced Italian wines by the bottle and glass. Corkage is $15.

BEWARE OF ADDED FRAUD CHARGES ON YOUR CREDIT CARD RECEIPT
by brett999
BEWARE OF ADDED FRAUD CHARGES ON YOUR CREDIT CARD RECEIPT FROM DELANCY RESTAURANT ON SUNSET!!! I ate dinner at Delancy on 10/6/11 and received a DOUBLE tip on my credit card statement. I went there with a Disney Executive and when the check came to our table, I offered to pay for dinner and he offered to pay the tip in cash of $16 on a $88 bill. So we left a $16 cash tip and I marked through the gratuity on credit card slip and totaled up the bill to $88 and signed. I do online banking and I am notified via email of all my purchases. Upon the notification on Delancy purchase, I see they charged ADDITIONAL 20% tip ($17) on my credit card even though I put a marked through the tip section because we left a cash tip. This was not an oversight and was done deliberately. When I spoke with the manager the following day, she told me..."that it's common practice that all restaurants do." Filing with the BBB and any other ways for their fraudulent activities. Please repost and stop consumers from being screwed over.

We love Delancey! It's a great place, and we love the honey brushetta and the butternut squach ravioli!
- Pros: Smart staff, great food, good choices for drinks
- Cons: pretty empty

This place got that mature feel to it. Its not hip or cool, but mature. If your older its a great spot to go.
Horrible service, bland food
by afrange
My wife and I visited on a Friday night -- our first time. We were initially impressed with the decor; it is very urban, NYC. That is where our good impressions ended. Ordered the fried calamari, which arrived in less than a minute, which means it is sitting in a bowl, under a heat lamp. If the waiter knows this, at least wait a couple of minutes to send the order and "fool" us that it is fresh. The dish was underseasoned and tepid. We also shared a prosciutto/arugula pizza that was devoid of flavor and overhwlemed with too much crust. For a restaurant that does not seat more than 40 people, with three servers, two busboys, and a "schoozy" manager-type walking around, we cannot understand why we sat with empty wine glasses for more than ten minutes (on two different occasions) without anyone asking if we needed another drink. The servers do realize that if you drink more, the check total increases in their favor, right? Would rather be part of "hidden camera" Pizza Hut commercial instead.
- Pros: exposed brick/atmosphere
- Cons: food, service, total experience
Food is Undeniably Fantastic, Martinis Adequate
by vitalusty
I stopped by Delancey's with a friend. We just wanted to grab a martini, but once you look at the menu, its hard to resist some of the entrees. Butternut squash ravioli, gourmet pizza recipes you might expect to see on Top Chef New York, salads with spinach, pine nuts, arugula . . . my stomach is grumbling just from the memory (I am vegan by the way).
So I had the side of artichoke hearts with pine nuts, orange, sweet and spicy onions. Small but delicious- the portion is the size of a typical gourmet side dish for $8. The inventive pastas and pizzas ran about $10-$13 each. I ordered a citrus martini which was fine, but was sweetened up over the bite of vodka. I asked for a regular martini to follow, dirty- and again it was a bit too mild for my taste (and for $12).
My friend had the pulled chicken and potato pizza which she seemed to thoroughly enjoy and a few cosmos. Our bill was alarming for lower middle class folk and two people who just had a couple drinks, one entree and one appetizer, totaling to almost 90 bucks.
The atmosphere is trendy east coast- which kind of disqualifies itself. Its small, a little loud, wood tables and brick walls. Then you have a few internet first dates, a few Hollywood hipsters and small groups of friends hanging out. Nice crowd.
Our waiter seemed enthusiastic the first 45 seconds of speaking and then he just seemed to want to get away from us. Maybe he wanted to be speedy, but I think its because our table put us at crotch level.
- Pros: FOOD, Atmosphere, Great Place for a Date if I ever had a life
- Cons: Martinis are weak, a little loud on weeknights
