very good mexicanstyle food, great better service, yet elegant place, great drinks, great food music, just dull, nice lobster
The worst service. And it's not the staffs fault. They have 1 server handling the bar and handling all the tables. I blame management. I work in the area and every time I come here I write it off as if the staff is having an off day but consistently it takes +45mins to get your food when you only have an hour for lunch. My office all know this about Isla and are starting to find other places to eat in the area. Management needs to have at least 2 servers and be present in the kitchen if they want the place to make it in the future.
Great Place. Great Environment.. Stopped by Friday afternoon with a few co-workers for HH. Great staff, great food, and great place. Just go.
Isla? More like Booya!.
This place is like Chuck-E-Cheese for Bros.
Seriously, their slogan should be "Where a Bro Can Be A Bro."
Were talking 2 for ones right when they open! Isla's staff rocks! They show a lot of love to patrons. More times then not, they hook a bro up with a shot. maybe even get a bro hug from the owner. Isla gets me.
Back to the Happy Hour - I'm not no math magician or whatever, but I paid for one drink, got two, and then a free shot of something... I mean it tasted great! So in 20 mins im 3 drinks in and have spent $6 - That's freakin' awesome! Expect me back Isla! I might even eat your, what appears, as good Mexican food. Expect. Me. Back.
Great Happy Hour and Late Night Music.
Great place to stop and have a few drinks and a bite to eat before heading to a concert on Sunset Strip. They have DJ's on 2 or 3 nights of the week.
Flat screens are always playing the major sport games so you don't miss a thing.
Happy Hour daily from 4-7
Go for the trio tacos-can't go wrong
Bad food, bad drinks. I came here for happy hour during the week, hoping for a decent margarita and some tasty niblets and was sorely disappointed. We ordered margaritas with salt and the waitress said that they did not have the "right kind of salt" (kosher - with the large flakes, I assume?) for margaritas. Come on - you're a stinkin' Mexican resto! Get some property salt! The food was horrible - stale, sorry, skimpy little chips, water-y under-seasoned guacamole, flavorless rubbery quesadillas, and a shrimp cocktail that had the consistency of a car tire and flavor of having been frozen for about seventeen months. All in all, there are far better Mexican joints in L.A. Avoid at all costs.
Great food music and atmosphere.

Check out Isla's resident DJ on Fridays
Great service, and food at this local sunset strip hangout. The music is great to relax to after a long week. Happy hour till 8pm
This is not a mexican restaruant! Bar, but food is dull.
I think like many reviews on this site, and the ones for this place, they are written by the restaruants staff. Come on, "my boyfriend said his lobster was fluffy!" Lobster is rubbery, not fluffy, that is the way it is.
I work close by so have been here twice, both times a waste. I was not poisoned, its food, and its not too expensive, but just dull dull dull. I'd rather go to El Torito.
The waitress takes your order than dissappears. This is more like ordering to go or something. I'll say it again, the food is not the reason to be here. im not sure what the reason would be as Sunset has so many cool places, and places not that expensive if you choose carefully.
The bar is cool to look at, but this is not a bar scene. It is very quiet at night.
Also, while the manager was nice, I think he is russian or armenian or something. Shouldn't a mexican place be ran by hispancis?
fast service & good food!. I've eaten here a few times and am always impressed at how fast the service is. The food is very good, and the service is excellent. The only downside is if you are eating outside, it can get noisy with the traffic on Sunset & on Holloway. It's a great place!
Great margs and fresh food. We've been here 3 times and had a great experience each time. The food is fresh and reasonable and the margs are amazing. We just had house margs but they have many tequilas to choose from if that's your thing. The happy hour is a great deal.
Unexpectedly great food for the price. Everytime I come to LA I like to try a new restaurant. I love Mexican food, and Isla Cantina lived up to my expectations. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Service was quick but we did not feel rushed. I had the chicken enchiladas and they were great as they were filled with well-seasoned all white meat chicken. Previous places I have been have had the worst chicken in the enchiladas. My boyfriend had the lobster tacos and said the lobster was nice and fluffy, perfectly cooked. I definately recommend Isla Cantina. Also, we went on a Friday night at around 6 and there was no wait.
