What Our Expert Scouts Say

Gordon Ramsay at The London - West Hollywood

Sophisticated hotel restaurant that shares a name (but no longer a connection) with Britain's famed soccer player-turned-chef is known for refined, high-end New American cuisine in a lavish space.

Great view, so so food. Excellent view, worth it for that alone. I had the steak cobb salad, pretty mediocre. They were also down on staff today so the service was very slow. The waiter was pleasant and apologized a number of times. This was my first experience so I am willing to give it another go (I mean how often do you see 8,000 palm trees). Definitely a good spot for a evening drink. I imagine the sunsets would be gorgeous.

Head to The Rooftop on the hotel's top floor for sweeping views, refreshing cocktails and Gordon Ramsay's fare tailored for alfresco dining.

Wow, I'm shocked to see bad reviews! We ate at the poolside cafe recently and it was by far the best meal I've EVER eaten. I won't claim to know if Ramsay has anything to do with this restaurant or the food served, but his name is indeed why we tried it. We had incredible pork belly sliders, pasta, steak and dessert. Everything was extraordinary.

Nothing to Write Home About. It was my birthday and that was the biggest restaurant disappointment in my life.

First I must say the London hotel, the restaurant location, is very beautiful. The restaurant decor is cold and elegant, like the rest of the hotel.

When I walked in to the restaurant, I was seated immediately. The service is OK but does not match the reputation this restaurant is making for itself.

The first turn off was that I found out that Gordon Ramsey has never been in the kitchen of that restaurant. It is just pure marketing. Well, I find that rather bizarre to name a restaurant after a chef that has never been in the kitchen of that restaurant or even created a menu for that restaurant. It is scammish! 2nd, these people are trying to follow french tradition by serving small portions, but my God, the portions at Gordon ramsey restaurant are ridicuolous! Each course has enough for 2 bites and I am not exagerating! and the food is not even good! Imagine such small bites and still the diner does not find it good! It is horrible food, really, served so small that you don't realize how bad it is. This restaurant will not last. It is too mediocre for the price and the idea of naming a restaurant after a chef that has never set foot in the kitchen, to me is a scam.

Great Duck. A really high end restaurant and just loved the service. All the servers were so kind and the duck was amazing.

Gordon Ramsay the best TV chef in L.A.. I've been to a few of the t.v. chefs places in L.A. The worst I have to say was Tom's place Kraft.. the food was served cold the gnocci was like eating glue and they only served ala carte.... I took my best friend to the london for his birthday and it was the best dinner I've ever had... the chefs menu at 60$ for 3 courses is an amazing deal. after we were seated we had menues within 1 minute the sommelier was knowlagable hw knew where the wines where from what they were best paired with and what wines fit our budget. With a 10 minute wait between courses the service wat amazing.... I cant say enough good things about this place... We already have our Thanksgiving reservations made... Gods bless Gordon

I would NOT recommend. They "claim" they are so booked, but you end up going to a 1/2 empty restaurant.

The service is horrible.

The portions are an embarrassment. (beyond small).

The food is horrible.

I would never go back, and would not recommend anyone to try it.

go to hells kitchen to eat not here. we were seated with much confusion in a half empty restaurant..it took almost an hour and fiteen minutes for the fisrt food to arrive..and it was burnt and sent back..we started talking to the couple next to us and they came at 7;30 and were still waiting for coffee ..slow, bland, snotty, too expensive, high priced average wines...we walked out without paying when the replacement appetizer never came...suddenly lots of appologies and the hidden maitre d came out..dont go here..gordon doesnt care he's a silent partner...they ruined my saturday night and when i told the maitre d there were lots of other unhappy customers that night he answered "i know"..well bozo do something about it.

Kitchen Nightmares at Gordon Ramsay. Here's an idea for the next season of Kitchen Nightmares.

Perhaps Gordon Ramsay can come in and fix his ex restaurant.

To be fair, I never ate at Gordon Ramsay at The London while it was still under his ownership but I had heard very good things. Good enough for Michelin to give it one star.

All I can say is the new management must be relieved Michelin isn't publishing a 2010 Los Angeles guide as I'd be surprised if they held on to that star.

There were some positives. The space is stunning. Opulent and romantic and luxurious. All leather and gold and chandeliers and soft muted tones. The service is still top notch, befitting its Michelin status. And, of course, the company of good friends.

But the food. The food was nothing short of disappointing.

Starting with the pan roasted scallops with caper raisin purée, cauliflower purée and cauliflower beignets, the scallops were, frankly, tasteless. Okay, maybe not tasteless but lacking the sweetness and flavor you would expect of a top quality scallop. These were honestly no better than the frozen scallops you'll find at Trader Joes, which for frozen scallops are pretty good but, hey, I don't see TJs proudly displaying their Michelin plaque. The caper raisin purée, for me, was incongruous. The saltiness of the caper and the sweetness of the raisin just didn't harmonize and it didn't do much to elevate the scallop itself. The cauliflower "beignets" were really just small pieces of fried cauliflower. Not exactly what I think of as a beignet. The cauliflower purée was good, however. But really, I was there for the scallop, not the purée.

I followed this with the pork chop with pomme purée and thyme sauce. The pork chop was disappointingly dry and tough. Not inedibly so - some of my dining companions enjoyed theirs - but I've had much better pork chops at far lesser establishments. The mashed potatoes were, however, quite good. Creamy and thick. But again, I was there for the protein, not the side.

I finished with the blueberry cheesecake with dulche de leche sauce. The cheesecake was good. Simple, baked and unadorned except for a few stewed blueberries. But the bottom crust of the cheesecake was delicious. Sweet and just dense enough to feel substantial but still flaky. Probably the single best component of the whole meal. But when the pastry crust is the best part of a meal, that can't be a good thing.

On the plus side, I do have to say that their wine list by the glass was very good, albeit expensive. I had an excellent Santa Barbara viognier and a very reasonable muscat with dessert. But, in total, the alcohol total for the table was more than the total for food.

On our way home, one of my dining companions wanted to stop at In-N-Out. Perhaps if we'd done that to begin with, I'd have saved a couple of hundred dollars.

As Gordon Ramsay himself would say, "I've had enough! SHUT IT DOWN!"

Great little lunch find. I had a very good lunch here that was not as expensive as I feared. Very good salads and nice carpaccio.

Parking is bad, but what can you do? Must valet. Sophisticated vibe and bright and airy. Never a wait for a table.
