view & uploadeasy place, love juquila, good food cheap, great take home mole sauce, great service, favorite neighborhood, best huevos rancheros
Citysearch Editorial Review. Set along the busy stretch of restaurants lining Santa Monica Boulevard in West L.A. (look for the bright yellow sign squeezed between Cafe 50's and a signless sushi joint), this no-frills spot is where local families and foodies flock for affordable Oaxacan eats. While most patrons order anything with the signature mole (say moh-lay) sauces--from rich and chocolatey negro (black) to super spicy rojo (red)--the restaurant's white board features daily specials like salty cactus salad, shrimp cocktail, steak fajitas and on weekends, menudo and pozole. As for that milkshake-esque pink drink everyone seems to have on their table, it's horchata--a traditional, cinnamon-tinged Mexican drink--that's been stirred with red cactus flower.
great food, easy to overlook. This place is fantastic, but it is so easy to just walk right by and not look twice. They serve great food including really fresh horchata. Try everything they serve, you won't regret it.
Yum. Carne asada is to die for. Service is great!! Substitute blk beans for pinto, much tastier. Good selection of beers.
my favorite neighborhood spot.
I love Juquila. It's a total hole in the wall spot, but the people are so nice, and the food is just so fantastic. Don't expect anything fancy, just good food cheap. They have the best huevos rancheros I have ever had. And it's never all that crowded
The thing that's also fun about it, the salsa is so fresh, and depending on the day you never know how spicy it is. Sometimes it's mild, other days it's SO spicy. So if you live on the westside... it's definitely worth trying out.
authentic.
The food is a little inconsistent in the same way that your Mom deserves to have a bad day from time to time. The waitresses have little to no personality and little experience but you dont come here for that. If you want authentic Oaxachan food, with no pretension, this is it.
If you are adventurous, try the burnt ice cream.
The take home mole sauce is great.
