What happened?

I used to make Upper Manhattan a regular stop on my nights out on the town, last weekend it was a different place entirely. I did not recognize one of the many employees I have come to know there. I came in with a group of 3 girls pretty early in the evening and it had not yet filled up. We sat at the bar for 18 minutes...(after 10 I started counting), before even being acknowledged. The guy behind the bar had zero personality and about as much skill with making drinks. I get a martini with 2 ingredients, how do you mess this up? Maybe he was nervous and new. We wanted to order food. We told him this. 3 times. I would like to comment on the food, perhaps how the taste and service made up for the drink experience but I can't because we never got to order food. What happened Upper Manhattan? I'm an easy going local girl who will miss the upper I used to know and love.

Great Martinis.. Great Times...Lights up the whole place...

Absolutely wonderful ! This place is awesome, my wife and I went the other night, we are both amazed on the look and feel of everything. The staff was very friendly, the food was great, and the lighting under the marble was very interesting it was like no other, it even changed colors throughout the night. The food was amazing we had the Breaded Calamari, I had the Filet Mignon and my wife had the Sea Bass. My wife in a big Martini fan, she loved them. We were able to see the Cabaret Show, wow the girls.. It was a good show, and not over the top, I think my wife enjoyed it more. We Danced until 1:30... Definitely a place to take your wife or even a date, these guys have it going on... We go back often... in fact we are planning our next party there, heard they have bottle service too.. There is detail everywhere... the sinks in the restrooms even light up.. Hope to see more of these open in other cities... Hey Upper Manhattan - Palm Springs would be great..!

Please By Pass This Place!

There are so many places that beat UML! There are so many places that are worth going but Upper Manhattan isn't one of them! I went because I love Burlesque shows. Who doesn't?

This is not worth the $10 cover & please don't order any of their "creative" drinks. They sound great but tastes bitter.

Bottom line. This place looks pretty but the actual essence of UML is just lacking- food, drinks and staff are just .......disappointing.

I really recommend:

"Glow" in Marina del rey has a great mix of people. Has great drinks & have great djs. Unlike Upper Manhattan lounge, this is a great place to take a group and again unlike Upper Mahattan they don't charge cover! The people here are 30-40s.

Beechwood is a nice classy joint where you can get a beautiful martini that also tastes good! Beechwood is the type of place that is great for a first date (romatic lighting, nice fire pit outside, and they have amazing food!) It's on the border of Playa del Rey & Venice & the crowd is more around mid 30s

Another classy joint is the The Edison in downtown. Check it out & have a great martini for 35 cents on Thursdays ........what a killer Happy Hour!

Hope you have a great time at these places and please again avoid UML (if you want to have a good time)

What Pompous Jerks!

So about a month & half ago I called up UML & talked to the Manager to book my sister's bachelorette party. He laughed of the fact that I was planning it so early. I told him that this night was really too important . (My sis mind you, was diagnosed with cancer last Christmas. She is engaged & is getting married in October. ) So me & the manager discussed the details. He told that me that we had to spend about $300 in bottle service or food to have the VIP section. That seemed really reasonable. I assumed that there VIP section was not so expensive compared to other places because they just opened up about two months ago.

So I went in person to UML to book the VIP area. I even asked in person

since I noticed that the website said they were the official after party for the AVP & ask again in person the hostesses if I had the VIP section still.

Two days before my sister's big party night (mind you- i had already sent out the invites to her friends) The UML hostess calls me up & says that I don't have the VIP section, that we have to pay cover & to get the little tables reserved we would have to drop a $1000. I went in person again to UML & talked again to the manager.....her basically told me - even though we don't have the VIP section, we would still have to do bottle service & he could no longer accommodate a large group. This is not VIP treatment!!!! Basically, the manager & staff think they don't have to keep their word. I got bumped & they think it's okay to lie. Do we really another stuck up, pretentious place in LA?
