decent diner food, good place, great service, not like milk, great diner, ever entertaining b movie posters, terrific ambiance
Not So Cool!. I know that some people hype about this place up, but I found it to be kinda Old and tired. The waitress made two mistakes with our order, you have to understand this is not a really big place, may be 40 people at the most would pack this restaurant. The food was average, with above average prices. I don't care much about being entertained by a magician while eating, may be a good place for your kids,....For the money, lots of better places around.
The Cutest Diner in Los Angeles!!!!. I love the 50's decor and the music on the juke box!!!! I feel like I'm actually in the 1950's everytime I eat there. Which is about twice a week!!! Everything on the menu that I've had so far is delicious. The fried chicken and theyre shakes are the best!!!!!!!
What a Scene. Cafe 50s is head to toe resurrected from the past. The waitresses seem transported from the 50s and don the ruby-lipped smile that is cliche but endearing. That's the word for this place: endearing. The efforts that are made into making this joint a family, community spot is heartwarming. Craft nights and charity projects alike are displayed on walls alongside 50s knick-knacks and calendar prints. The booths are red, the floor is checkered black and white, and there seems to be a long-running joke throughout the room. For instance, a sticker on the milk canister reads "If you don't like our milk, go milk your own!" and is just like the restaurant's frank humor. Fun little games are played around christmas time with customers, such as surprise coupons that you can't open until after christmas in front of a waitress. The food is also one of the best diner food I've ever tasted. Their brunch, especially! Oh, and being in LA and all, I better mention a celebrity sighting. Adam Sandler, as inconspicious as ever, with his wife and kid. But no one in the restaurant cared, because its just that chill!
Great milk shake!. Intriguing retro decor, and tasty milk shake! The milk shake costs about 5 bucks for one, but they are quite big portion, you can hardly finish it on your own. I would definitely try their burger next time. And they have a pajamas' night every Wednesday night, if you are brave enough to have a free or half price meal for return.
Best daytime family dining experience in my life~. Stopped in for the first time on my way to the beach with my 5 year old and his friend. It's easy to impress my boy with any restaurant that serves fries - but I'm more discerning. Sampled three different breakfasts and this is the best DINER in town. But the COOLEST thing about this already super cool retro retreat - is there was a magician walking around doing free magic at all the tables! It's a little far for us to go every weekend, but if it weren't , we'd be regulars for sure.
Comfort Food in a 1950s atmosphere. While the '50s decor can seem a little over-the-top, the shakes and classic diner food make this one of my favorite stops. A more homey version of Johnny Rockets, Cafe 50s offers booth or counter seating. Order an egg cream or choose from their vast menu of malts or shakes, try the butterfinger shake or coffee banana malt. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offer the usual burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches along with "blue plate specials" like chicken fried steak and meatloaf served with heaping portions of homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. Be sure to sign up for their e-mail mailing list as they offer weekly coupons and a free meal on your birthday!
Classic American burgers and shakes served with an ample helping of 1950s nostalgia..
In Short
Cafe 50's is smartly attired in red vinyl, white Formica and chrome. The walls are plastered with B-movie posters and ads of a bygone era, and a quarter buys three tunes on the 1957 jukebox. Sizzling burgers and crispy fries are standards, and the soda fountain is unparalleled, replete with favorites like egg creams and vanilla Cokes. Have a Norman Rockwell moment sipping any one of the three dozen super-thick malts and milk shakes.
Awesome shakes!. Street parking makes visiting this Cafe 50s a bit difficult if not impossible certain times, their selection of milkshakes alone are worth coming here for. Their food's better than most other diners in the area.
Shake it Up. If you are feeling like a good malt or a shake, Cafe 50's always is there to please: choose from a large selection, Fudge Brownie Vanilla, Oreo etc. These are a good idea for a date. The B Movie Posters on the wall are ever entertaining, and the half portion of chilli cheese fries is large enough to feed an entire village.
Classic. Good burgers, sandwiches, etc. Even better milkshakes... there are so many varieties and I don't think any of them are bad (this includes the PB&J flavor).
