What People Are Saying About The Palace Restaurant

In Short – With a second-story mini-mall location, this Westside dim sum destination is sunny by day, cozy by night, and always an intimate respite from the clamoring banquet halls of the San Gabriel Valley. Diners might rub elbows with Hong Kong stars like Chow Yun Fat and John Woo drawn by the authentic Chinese menu. Dim sum offers a variety of dumplings--chicken and spinach, scallop, taro and a myriad of shrimp variations--and the popular fried shrimp on wooden skewers.

Under New But Better Management Again

by allysuperduper

The Palace was closed down again for a few weeks and the food was better after it re-opened. I stopped going here when they changed their shrimp har gow recipe but now it's back to the way it was when it was still VIP Harbor. However, it's more expensive, but this is one of the few dimsum places on the Westside that's good so I will keep going.

Terrible service! Thieves!

by speakkkup

My friend and I just finished dining at The Palace Seafood & Dim Sum.

The service was horrible. We waited and waited and waited for our orders to come. Finally, I asked the waiter what was taking so long? He never placed the orders and he repeatedly apologized. Then, he said that we could order an appetizer and it would be on the house.

When the bill came, they ended up charging us for the appetizer. We explained to the manager that the waiter said there would be no charge for it. The manager explained that the waiter had no right promising anything to us.

We resentfully paid the bill without any tip and we promised that we would NEVER go back there again!

As an aside, I keep reading terrible reviews about this new place. If they continue to mistreat their customers as they do, I wonder how long they will last?

Worst Dining Experience in Recent Memory

by USPSAGunner

After making reservations for a family dinner AND showing up to the restaurant on time, our table had been given away and we were asked to sit at a folding table with folding chairs. While normally I would have left at that point, one member of our family insisted we stay. It only got worse from there.

Service was inattentive (at best) and rude at most. They all but blamed US for their lousy service. For example, after bringing an insect laden drink to the table and being asked to replace it, they didn't bring anything back until we asked the Manager to intercede. Then he yelled at us for being so impatient on a busy night -- as though their scheduling problems were somehow our responsibility.

The food was nothing special. I've had comparable cuisine in a shopping mall food court at much lower prices. Rather than seasoning their food in any manner befitting professional food service, it was a soupy mess of excess salt & pepper.

Absolutely NOTHING worthwhile about this dining experience.

  • Pros: Not one
  • Cons: Rude service, Mediocre (at best) food

WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD BEFORE

by Daniel Koo

I went there on Saturday. It was not crowded or busy at all so that I could get a seat really quick. The manager didn't seem nice, he was definitely an angry person. He yelled at me when I tried to get the food server attention.

Also, the waiter Samson/Simon (I forgot his name, the handwriting on the "card" was so bad) was ridiculously RUDE. I first ordered a regular coke, but he mistakenly gave me a diet one. I asked him to change it for me. Instead of apologizing for his mistake, he showed a bad face and refused to change it for me. Later, he sent the busboy to serve me another coke. Also, when I tried to order something from the menu, he was IMPATIENT to explain the ingredients of the dish.

One more thing, I complained that the cup was dirty and requested a change. Guess what, he took the cup and whisper in Chinese, "HE IS TROUBLESOME" (Obviously, he didn't realize that I could understand Chinese). I believe lots of customers got the verbal abuse, but they just didn't know what he was speaking. Anyway, at that time, there were not many customers, he was not in rush, why did they treat a customer without manner.

Food is just ok, but the service is extremely BAD. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND if you want to eat comfortably and you want some respect as a customer. And I will never dine in there again. NEVER!

  • Pros: You don't need to wait too long to be seated
  • Cons: Dirty, Bad Service, Rude
